Roster Building/Team Building/Future Trade/Drafting thread.

If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

A good source of mine just told me that Treliving is in the kitchen "cooking" right about now and to expect something hot out of the oven very, very soon!

Lebrun was talking earlier apparently saying that Tavares and Leafs are still talking about lot. I figure it gets done.

I still think lower average but more years.

As for Knies I really hope they figure that out soon.

I thought at least 1 would be done by now. Then really go at the trade market.

I wouldn't go crazy on this years free agency unless a guy really wants to be a Leaf and you can get a good deal.

My hot take is I think the Leafs end up signing Marchand to an absolutely ridiculous tire fire of a contract that will end awfully. But the first season of two will be a hell of a lot of fun. Tre doesn't have the job security to tread water for too long, he's going to need to sell a big splash of some sort to the board

If we can do a sign and trade with Vegas as Kyper implies, they would have redeemed themselves of this Marner situation, but probably unlikely.

It absolutely won't happen but would be an absolutely amazing outcome all things considered

That just seems so cringe to say about a sports team.

4 x 9 seems like a terrible deal.

It will. I'm expecting a about 35 mil, front loaded over 4 years.

First couple years at 13ish mil per with the final 8ish mil split over the last two. If they keep the bonuses low on the back half of the contract it's more palatable from a buyout pov if it comes down to it.

I'd deal Cowan + Danford + 2nd for a promising 2C (maybe not all, but these 3 assets would be on table)

Rossi or Mactavish or Beniers are options to target.

Get the 2C which sets you up for the next decade.

Let's you build your 3C without overpaying Tavares if we want to retain him

I think Cowan + Florida's 2nd goes out the door for a 2C at some point over the summer. I'd love Rossi but don't see him being a Tre/Berube type

Huge reason Marchand excelled in Florida was because of how good that third line was and the favourable match ups.

Coming to the Leafs he would most likely play on the first or second line and the dude will be 38 years old by next year's playoffs.

The most you're getting out of him is 1-2 years and even then you don't know what happens with injuries at that age.

Yea, I like him but this seems like a bad idea.

Though the flip side is he wouldn't be expected to drive offense in the top six in the Leafs. Hed be thriving off playing with Matthews or Willy

But I'd agree fully he's only going to be majorly impactful as a player for the next couple seasons

It's pure desperation. Hey maybe it works out and they win a cup though, I dunno. But so many other avenues they could take and this one is probably the riskiest and the most absurd routes, especially if they dump over 8M for him. It's just insane.

At first I was very against moving Carlo but if Treliving could turn Carlo+ for McLeod and then sign Ekblad, I think that would be great work.

Knies(7) - Matthews(13.25) - Domi(3.75)
McMann(1.35) - McLeod(6.5) - Nylander(11.5)
Mangiapane(3.5) - Tavares(4.5) - Raddysh(2.25)
Jeannot(2) - Laughton(1.5) - Holmberg(1.25)

McCabe(4.51) - Ekblad(8)
Rielly(7.5) - Tanev(4.5)
Benoit(1.35) - Ekman Larsson(3.5)

Stolarz(2.5) - Woll(3.67)

93.88

I am a little worried about what gets accomplished this offseason in terms of value coming in versus money spent.

They’ll want to please Matthews and crew, but thats when mistakes happen.

Hoping Brad T comes firing out of the gate and moves Morgan tho.
Morgan would have to be a willing participant.
