If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

You think FLA speed was the reason why Toronto lost? Toronto lost due to FLA aggressive strong forecheck. No time and space to make a play. Not because FLA was "fast"..

You can be a fast team, but if you can't forecheck or are heavy on pucks, it doesn't matter.
Yep, but at the same time, what does one do to counter that forecheck?

For me, it's making this defence much more mobile and younger if possible, or else they'll just be in the same position next year watching Tanev get pasted to the boards 107 times or whatever the number was.

For me, it's making this dcore hell of a lot younger and mobile, or else they'll just be in the same position next year watching Tanev get pasted to the boards 107 times or whatever the number was.
Part of the reason our dcore got hit a ton is a lot of them handle the puck like it's a grenade.

I rewatch the games recently (I love putting myself through pain) it's something I noticed a ton. Our team never did the picks that Florida would do and our D got hit a TON just because they struggled to move the puck quickly

how does one establish a forecheck that is aggressive if one cant even get to the puck thats dumped in before the other teams defence can?

we looked like were skating on molasses in the playoffs especially against florida. team speed was 100% an issue I dont understand how people see things so one sidedly. you cannot win in this league without speed and size and that size needs to be able to skate and contribute in the playoffs; something Marchment doesnt do. People here are horny for him because he's big and thats it tbh

how quickly did florida get on our Defence; team speed was definitely a factor in them winning. they played faster than edmonton too and edmonton has mcdavid lol

Picks and how aggressive or often you do it is a stylistic choice, I'm sure they do them as well at times. However, even if it frees them up and gives more time, to a man, this blue line just isn't the most talented or mobile as currently built.

The contrast to our guys and Florida in that regard is night and day.

Which is part of my biggest issue with Berube: he seems to want to recreate his Edmundson-Pietrangelo, Boumeester-Parayko pairings here with much different players.

Its the only way, this UFA crop looks bleak
Oh there will be UFA signings. I almost guarantee it.

I can't wait to see who TOR is going to trade for. Probably no one of significance, or players that can carry this team.

Unless Auston Matthews wants to waive and play elsewhere, who could they possibly move out to make a splash?

Every team will thank Toronto for getting Marchand off the panthers. I don’t think the repeat without him this year.
I wonder how different things would have been had we invested our resources into acquiring Marchand instead of Laughton or Carlo. There's an argument to be made that with Marchand on our team rather than the Panthers, we win that second round series, even without Carlo or Laughton.

Sure, but trading for Marchand wasn't an option

There is no question that McDavid is a great player, but the reality is, without Draisaitl, he isn't nearly as dominant, and barely a break even player +-..... Every playoffs, they have to put the two together, as McDavid doesn't really produce on his own otherwise. Strange, but go look at the stats. McDavid also isn't great defensively, he bleeds chances against.

Frankly, you are better off building around Draisaitl.....

Pull your wingers off the wall and use the middle breakout.

Fly the zone and chip it off the glass.

Goalies can play the puck much more effectively. Woll especially just leaves his D hanging.

When I see people say he’s the best ever it’s just insane. Most nights he’s not even the best players on his own team

Add to that Lemieux made guys like Rob Brown and Kevin Stevens 50 goal guys. Florida found ways to shut down McDavid

Nobody could shut down Lemieux. Even with a bad back and post Hodgkins he was on another planet

That’s acceptable for a depth guy making 4.5.

It isn’t from core player making 10+.

What’s his job here though? He’s awful defensively so it’s gotta be some sort of sheltered scoring line. Maybe you can run Marchment-Domi-??? in soft 75% offensive zone starts but that’s also begging for momentum crushing dumb OZ penalties.

I don’t mind Marchment if he’s coming at cap dump prices because at least it’s only 1 year vs 3+ for a comparable UFA but they really need to stop going for names and figuring out where they go later and start being very methodical about what each lines job is and why those 3 forwards are the best guys for that job.

here's our problem we just saw florida blast people with getting more points out of players making 4.5 than 10 they got value out of their players <archment is a negative value player especially in the playoffs
