Roster Building/Team Building/Future Trade/Drafting thread.

If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

For those that say Toews is too slow or Patch. Perry isn’t fast. But his hockey IQ is amazing and do you notice how the puck always finds him.

Perry and Patch are hard to move when they get to where they’re going, that hasn’t really been Towes’ game unless he has a Patch-like pivot to being a mean son of a bitch that cleans up rebounds instead of The Guy on his line.

Rangers trade players with NMC's because they want to build a winner and aren't afraid of making the hard choices to improve their team, Leafs......not so much........

Rangers are kinda James Dolan crazy but I think there’s a middle ground where you can make hard decisions, uncomfortable conversations and turf comfortable multimillionaires when the time is right.

Word out of Florida is that free agent Bennett would like to remain a Panther and they would like to keep him if the dollars work out. Also, word out of Florida is that the Panthers don’t have a whole lot of interest in re-signing the veteran defenceman Aaron EkbladIf Bennett is available, the Maple Leafs will be among those bidding for the centre from Holland Landing. He’s the perfect fit, price aside, for the DNA roster switch the Leafs are attempting … Leafs apparently have no interest in EkbladIf Bennett is unavailable in free agency, expect Treliving to be an active trader this summer

Larry Brooks is reporting that Alexis Lafreniere has come up in multiple trade talks. Really hope we're one of those teams calling.

What Toronto having who will interest NYR for lafreniere? ask yourself the question...

They will not give him and will cost a lot and probably the ask would be Knies

Rangers are actively open to moving him dating back to the trade deadline. I don’t think they’re in any position to be asking for a younger better player in Knies in return for him.

Yeah, all those championships of the last 10 years surely are the bar to get to. Oh...

Think Calgary still angry about Tree?

Any chance at Kadri?

Kadri has a full NMC for one more season before it turns into a M-NTC. So it's possible they sit on him one more season and then look at trading him to whoever they can next year. But if they want to sell relatively high and if the Leafs have enough interest, they may not have much of a choice because I think Kadri would love to be back.

It's a tough fit in terms of assets though. No idea what kind of deal would work for Calgary. They might not even want to trade him anytime soon.

All they have in terms of leverage in a trade for him is that he's young and was a 1st overall pick 5 years ago. He's locked up for the next 7 years at 7.4 which could be a good or bad thing. I'll lean more towards being a good thing imo. Idk why the Rangers would want to trade him unless the Stars actually want to trade Robertson and the Rangers want him badly.

Really glad he insisted on remaining in Toronto at the deadline though.

i hope the franchise never honors him. No number retirement, no video tribute. Don't even boo him. Just pretend it didn't happen

That would be perfect. Just don’t even acknowledge him that he even was a leaf

His wife was weeks away from giving birth, who in their right mind would want to uproot and move at that time? It was foolish on the organization not to trade Marner before his NTC kicked in.

Or getting the bottom 6 to follow the lead of the Top 6.

Perhaps O'Reilly's position would have been different if the DNA in the Top 6 was different?

That's part of it for sure. But I just don't think the bottom six is good enough, especially if we want the focus of the team to be more depth oriented. Having JT on the 3rd line will definitely help though.

NYR are open to move him if they like the trade, they are not shopping lafreniere... That's extremely different... So if you want him you're gonna need to pay for this and Toronto don't have the weapon for this

It would be difficult for them to trade him and get value.

There is still time for him to prove he's a 1st. liner.

I think there's enough games in the bag to see where he lies in the draft though?

Nah, I yearn for the Bozak years. It was easy to cheer for players like Bozak. They were likable. While they lacked in skill they at least worked hard.

People made fun of the Leafs and I defended those teams. But now? People make fun of the Leafs and I agree with them. The haters are exactly right about the fraud 4
I recall people distinctly hating on Kessel and Bozak for not working hard.
