If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

1 core change is DNA change. His words didn't have any defined definition. You're just taking it like he meant he'd change the entire team, or at least part of the team you don't like. Some want Matthews traded. Some want some sort of rebuild. Some want a nuclear explosion of change, when they'll likely just reload a lot of those changes without Marner and probably other areas of the team. It's a little too early for all this since a lot can change day to day. Maybe Rielly will be punted too. Maybe they'll pull off a blockbuster. I dunno.

Removing JT for Suter is a change, but a likely terrible one. And then we'll wonder why we're still struggling. But hey... we changed something.
Well, I'll come off the Suter thing, and perhaps looking for a trade option is best there.

However, it still doesn't change the fact that more than one change is needed if you actually want to accomplish something.

Removing 1 player and replacing with 2 players in the Top 6, is substantial.

Knies-Matthews-NewGuy1
Tavares-NewGuy2-Nylander

That's a large change.

Keep in mind not all 1st. line players are 1st. line talent players ...

Why do you prefer those 2 over JT? Both are 29 year olds with little history of being productive
I would not mind Suter for the right price but not sure he will replicate his 18% shooting. Also 42% FO so he seems like safer as a winger who can provide draws if needed. I think he would be cheap.

They seem like in addition to rather than to replace type pickups. But one off production like that (for both) is concerning for me and not something I'd bank on repeating

This is true, but they still likely need 3, maybe 4 new depth players on top of that. The bottom six will need more scorers and they probably need another puck-mover among the D

Or getting the bottom 6 to follow the lead of the Top 6.

Perhaps O'Reilly's position would have been different if the DNA in the Top 6 was different?

..and yet, it's Marner's stats that are the worst in games 5, 6 and 7 over everyone else.... repeatedly.

Stats is one thing, he still pts leader. Hes the guy who had been the lass on the ice for goal against and 2nd ( 1behing nylander for goal for)

Seeing a guy taking shift off again and over again when you try to ask to rest of the team to play hard and 200 feet of the ice.forcing his teammate to play basically at 4v5 and got even more tired when its time to attack because tank became empty... thay had to overcome one guy uninterested to defend and waste all their energy for this. After we watch the same line in offensive end and say, oh look Nylander look like the only working hard on that line but he's the only one who still have energy... causr he didn't waste any of them to defend so still at 100% of energy when its time to attack... Do you think thst didn't have an impact on his teammate and rest of the team?

or guy who should be NHL best shooter getting great A chance like a good pass on a 2v1 and shooting 10 feet wide to the net over and over again...

None of core player had been good enough all those 3 leader had been massive issue... Marner had not been worst than Matthews or Nylander, just failed in a different way

Completely unsurprising but why does everything that relates to Marner’s camp always have to be so acrimonious?

Looks like Ferris is doing everything possible for his client to be absolutely loathed by the majority of this fanbase as he moves on, and it’s all so unnecessary.

Done with Marner and at this point he can’t leave soon enough.

Great player and I’m sure he’s a good kid, but he’s got absolute money-grubbing asshole representation that are going to ensure that he’s reviled and leaves an even worse taste in this fanbase’s mouth.

So unnecessary… x

I would like Lorentz back, he was perfectly fine for what he was asked to do and he should be relatively cheap. The issue is 4LW is the easiest position to fill.
I would much rather have Tanev than Lorentz on the 4th line. Tanev is a way bigger pain to play against and adds some much needed speed.

LOL. Malkin not captain material, just because the guy isn't loud doesn't make them captain material. That dude does his showing on the ice. That dude has carried Pittsburgh plenty of times. Jesus Christ.

Yes that’s right. Malkin is not captain material. Everyone agrees that Malkin is great when he wants to be. And often he doesn’t want to be. That’s captain material?

Jesus Christ. Now please add me to your ignore list

Touchy subject here but if Carter Hart and Alex Formenton were declared not guilty in their trial, do you look at giving them a second chance in the NHL?

Yes absolutely. Edmonton already tried to sign Hart and the league blocked it. I don’t see why an innocent man can’t play in the league

We will need some great penalty killers. 4th liners should be able to crash and bang, defend very well and kill penalties

Speed and size is great

Lorentz isn’t really that good. Doesn’t hit much, nobody really fears him and he doesn’t add much offence. However I do love that he really wants to be a maple leaf. Maybe there is some room for improvement for him to add a bit more scoring touch with added confidence
