Well I don't want anything to do with their agent either. Ferris convinced Marner to hold out for every dollar he could get on his 2nd contract. That's what advisors do. But that is the moment where the feel good story of the local kid growing up a Leaf fan became strictly business. Unfortunately not just for him, but for the fanbase as well. He made it about dollars and cents, so the fanbase did the exact same thing when they didn't feel he delivered after being one of the highest paid players in the league.Dreger thinks that Bennett doesn’t want anything to do with Toronto. Maybe the agent connection there as Marner wants out as well
I dont see Bert getting bought out, but if so sign me up. I think you'd get a lot more value and milage out of a lineup that has Matthews playing with 2 cheaper guys like Bertuzzi and Domi, a Knies-Nylander 2nd line that has the center being the worst player on that line, a 3rd line that has Cowan learning from Tavares, and then a checking line featuring Tanev-Laughton.

I mean yea almost any lineup with Matthews is going to fit that description, but Marner being gone is a startThat's an ugly team.
A bunch of names and expensive players who will be paid more than their production.
I would expect less scoring than this year with that team, and the defensive results to be similar.
2nd round if they get an easy matchup.

The post I quoted literally talks about him being bought out, which even i said was unlikely.Glad you thought the best replacement for Marner was Bertuzzi who has been terrible 5v5 for both Toronto and Boston in the playoffs and wouldn't get the same PP deployment here, so is not really that helpful.
He is also not available.
It'd be good if you looked into the players before signing them.

Reading. You should try it sometime
I'd try, but I've realized a rational conversation with you is impossible.I read your terrible lineup.
Do you want to discuss how Bertuzzi did nothing at 5v5 and hurt his team but his stats are inflated from some PP time he wouldn't get in Toronto?
Tell me how that'd be beneficial.
I'd try, but I've realized a rational conversation with you is impossible.
But by all means, do tell how the overpaid losers are finally going to get it done this time around
Get back to me when you can read and comprehend the post you first quoted. You came out swinging and missed wildlySounds like you have no answer so you will attack me instead, it's expected.
I didn't expect any thought behind your post anyway, you typically just throw out names of people you think are good playoff performers and say they play the right way or something else generic, even if they have no track record of that.

Most teams won't spend to the cap, internal capWith a rising cap, it’s pretty unlikely.
Sorry I thought we were talking about which group of players were better defensively last season. You said you were measuring defensive ability…
Most teams won't spend to the cap, internal cap
With the cap going to say 110 mil , this going to be good for teams with money
Players will also be asking for more money.
There will be opportunities we need to be ready to pounce.
Florida was always ready to pounce.
The Leafs can sign someone up to 2.34M.With our draft picks, it looks like the largest offer sheet we can sign this summer is about 1.5 million, which is no comparison. That’s not going to steal anything useful.
I'm guessing you have to pay a premium on getting your own picks back - they know what's up.The Leafs can sign someone up to 2.34M.
They could probably trade the 63OA for their own 2026 2nd at the draft which would open them up for an OS up to 4.68M.
Interesting players at 2.34M: Goncalves, Chisholm, Bourque, Malinski
Interesting players at 4.68M: McBain, Evangelista
Maybe. This years 2nd is probably more valuable to Chicago though. There is mutual benefit if the Leafs were interested in an offer sheet.I'm guessing you have to pay a premium on getting your own picks back - they know what's up.
oddly enough matthews has played his best playoff hockey with Johnson and kapanen and with Bert and domi (injured but won a game by himself and set up the go ahead goal in game 7 that series). I think knies-matthews-domi also inadvertently forces the coach to stop starting him so much in the defensive zone and also spread out offence. I think I would replace McMann with a strong, fast defensively responsible puck hound on that fourth line and maybe add danault at 2C or something giving you defensive balance and scoring throughout the line up with speed and tenacityThe Leafs should be targeting two types of players this offseason, especially when it comes to the many holes at forward. Winners, and guys who will outproduce their cap hit.
In the latter category, Tavares and Pacioretty seem like no-brainer guys to bring back. If Tavares can be had for a fraction of his current hit he'll be a valuable piece. Pacioretty looks like a brand new man relative to his previous few years.
Regarding the former category, Marchand is the obvious fit. Friedman has speculated Marchand could be interested in the challenge of leading Toronto to the promise land in a way other players aren't. I'd rip the C off Matthews and give it to the rat in a heartbeat but thats another conversation.
Bennett and Ekblad are pipe dreams. I dont see either of them leaving Florida, and if they did Toronto is still probably at the bottom of the list. Now under that assumption, Marchand could be squeezed out of Florida.
Domi I think you get the most out of him next to Matthews. And Matthews is a big boy and a highly paid one at that. He doesnt need both Knies and Nylander, and if he does he can f*** off.

Problem is that X is going to be damn hard to fill this offseason with the demand for centers, and abundance of both cap space and buyers. Danault isnt going anywhere. I think Colorado after signing Nelson would rather move Coyle (no interest there from me) over Colton. It gets even worse since the Leafs have very few tradeable assets. And if you go out and sign a Granlund/Duchene type youre just as soft as before
