If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

Perry last 111 playoff game ( since he left anaheim)

Perry goal/ game 0,23
0,45 pts/game

Domi last 53 game ( since he left MTL)
Domi goal by game 0,19
0,57pts/game

The value of Perry is he cost nothing in salary so quality/price is great but if i have to take a player between Perry right now or Domi at same salary, i taking Domi all day long and its not even close. The fact mxdavid and draisaitl help his production change absolutly nothing
Perry has what this team lacks in spade, want a hint? Heart.............

and Domi showed heart too but nobody can do the work and working for Matthews, Nylander and cie and make them look good... itd supoosed to do the reverse ... Matthews, Nylander, marner, JT making player around them better and its NEVEar happened so leafs NEVER had playoff succes, simple as that.

Nobody paid Perry to be the guy carrying the team but to bring energy and secondary scorin and its exavtly what Domi did too...

Toews won't get more than a year deal, kind of like Hakanpaa.
Kane has been doing 1 year deals.

So yes, Toews and Kane wouldn't tie up Cap Space going forward.

View attachment 1047296

neither player will be expensive and in Toews case I highly doubt he gets a contract with term..........
If there’s even a chance that McDavid hits the market next year, why are we wasting cap space this summer on an average player?
Even if he doesn't make it to July 1st, I'd still rather save our cap space and wait. Next year’s free agent class is stronger, and committing to long-term or overpriced deals now could cost us the opportunity to make a franchise-changing move later.

Yep, you don't need 2025-2026 Cap space for players signed in 2026 free agency.

So sign placeholders, like Toews, Kane, JVR ... to 1 year deals.

His wife is opening a restaurant in Edmonton. I don't think there is any realistic chance he is moving and I doubt management is thinking that either. They are in the finals again , that's where players want to be. Has there been a hint anywhere that he would consider a move?

Kane? He's American and only ever played for American NHL teams
There's talk of Bennett at 10M a season
I seriously doubt a team like the Rangers will eat that kind of money
Mantha is wildly inconsistent
Seems a bit low on JT to

I think your numbers are light
Theres been both reports of him getting 10m, and him not getting 10m, I went with the middle number.
Kane stat means nothing.
Rangers are out of contention now. Don't think it matters if they eat money for a year or two.
Mantha has been solid, averaging 40 points a season for the past 3 years apart from this year when he got hurt.
JT numbers might be too low, they need to give him longer term to keep it down.

Either way, there's way to get deeper. Big summer for Tree.

thr non-sense is

a 4th line 40 y/o who's not better than Domi is good enough to play with mcdavid

a 4th line 30 pts max pacioretty who's not bbetter than Domi is good enough tonplay with Nylander

Jonathan Drouin i who's not better than Domi is good enough tonplay with mackinnon

beauvilier who's not a better player is good enough for Ovechkin

Rodrigues or Boqvist who's not a better player is enough for Barkov

Cousins who was by far a worst player than domi was enough for Tkachuk

But Domi should not be enough for our superstar Austin Matthews. If it's not enough, he shouldn't never be compare to any NHL superstars

PS Matthews can have the number of pts he want, the guy who creating thing on that line was not Matthees... He was by far the worst player of that line and its not even close...
McDavid and Matthews shouldn't be compared, McDavid is on another level compared to him.

Clearly those players you listed Drouin,Beauviller,Cousins aren't good enough to play with them... They all wouldn't have gotten smoked in the playoffs if they were.. Just cause they are on the line with them, doesn't mean they are good enough.

The point has gone completely over your head. no point in continuing if you don't understand.

Tkachuk the 1st year they reached stanley cup played a lot with Cousins and where Tkachuk been at his best and his was the only time he reached ppg in playoff and reached 10 goal...

Kane won a cup alongside Handzus whobwas not a better player than Domi

Toews won a cup with Bickell on his line who had been nothing more than a 4th line player.

oreilly with samuel Blais

eichel with barbashev who was nothing more than a 25-40 pts player before joining vegas

Draisaitl was playing a lot with Holloway last year

They all reached stanley cup final so you can't said they had beem exposed, it was not the case at all

Do you want other exemple?!?!?! A lot of different elite player playing with bottom 6 player and still looking great as line.

At the price Matthews is pay, he should do it. Leafs can,t spend an an other 14-15M just to make his line look fine in playoff...If they not, peafs are in trouble because they will not have enough money available to get good offensive depht, good D and good goaltending...

Man are Bennett and Marchand ever gonna cash in this offseason.

Gotta be 10+ For Bennett and 8+ for Marchy.

I think July 1 is gonna be a shit show. Well, it always is, but more so than usual.

Signing Bennett is like an addition by subtraction. He may not worth 10 mil if he plays for us, but when he plays for the panthers, he's worth 15 mil because he can get away with injuring the other team's goalie or top players without facing any consequences. He can't do the same in Toronto, but at least he won't be able to take out our goalie in the playoffs.

Most ideally, some team in the West signs him for 10+ mil. But most likely he'll just stay in Florida for 8 mil (tax-free state) and all the talks about him going to free agency is just for his negotiation.

Planning your tesm’s future strategy on IF the best player in the wofld would want to spend the remainder of his career with this gong show of a team isn’t a sound idea…….

Someone a few pages back mentioned now being the time to move off of players like Benoit and McMann. I couldn't agree more.

With the way we have been bleeding picks, you can use the two of them as an opportunity to replenish some of those picks (3rd-6th rounders likely) while replacing the players in free agency.

McMann is super streaky and was invisible in the playoffs. If you're not going to score, I'd prefer a player like Jeannot who is going to f*** shit up.

Benoit played great in the playoffs but they really need a puck mover back there and he's the logical person to replace.

Yep. A lot of turnover has to happen, especially to take advantage of the teams newfound cap flexibility

Benoit can maybe stay - but if he suddenly has value on the trade market, I'd send him out and use the cap flexibility to maybe sign a legit second pairing guy.

At least half the depth players on the roster need replacing. McMann is an ideal trade candidate, especially to a team for a more expensive (and better) vet and needs to shed salary.

It's a bad idea if the cap isn't going up, and a lot of our key players haven't signed deals yet. But even if the best player isn't going on the market, is it even a bad idea to have cap space?

Coaches just don't like him.

All the platitudes in the world are meaningless when they keep taking him out of the line-up.

He'll be (only/already) 24 when the next season starts.

Just wondering about defensively responsible centers, so looked at Selke voting this year. Suzuki got more Selke votes than Matthews. Draisaitl more than marner.

WTF:
Knies - Matthews - Robertson

Earn that fricken contract Matthews.
Who am I to judge, but I think one of the great failings of this era was not using the premier talent to stretch out the lineup and increase player values, then cycle them around in trade similar to CHI back in the day.
I remember wanting JT to centre Josh Leivo and Connor Brown and to get some surplus production out of them.
More recently I would have loved to see NickRob get some reps with JT and MM to see how he’d make out with better offensive players who can really help him get his shot off.
Moot point now.
Edit to add: the team did succeed in boosting many players stock (Hyman, Bunting, whoever played with Mo) but didn’t do the maximizing value part.

Perry is 40 and will be closer to 41 by the time the next season starts. Regardless of what he was theres going to be more suitable options

What can it hurt at league minimum. He’s playing better than most of our players did this playoffs. He’s a must sign I think just to teach the guys about what it takes to get to the dance

I think the conversation needs to shift too how does Toronto get a better player on their top line RW or 2nd line LW, so they are able to have Domi play where he should be playing, which is 3rd line winger.

This isn't about Matthews having to carry lesser players on his line, but how Toronto gets better & deeper players on the roster.
They have no choice but to retool in free agency frenzy

With the leafs looking at a new president is it possible if the leafs fail again next year they will get rid of Tre and let the president hire their own guy? Is it possible tre could be dead man walking this season?
