Roster Building/Team Building/Future Trade/Drafting thread.

If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

I don’t believe the window is closed, just hoping Matthews doesn’t pull a Marner at the last year of his contract where he nixes trades at the deadline then doesn’t sign again. That is the only worry.
This team isn’t winning shit with 34 at the helm, him and his buddy Marner will be dispised by Leaf Nation when it’s all said and done, book it…….

Everyone brain storming roster moves...it's probably one of the more interesting off-seasons in a while.

Let's just hope Treliving doesn't sit on his hands again in terms of roster building. I'll be pretty sad if July 1st rolls around without a good amount of movement prior.

Chicago seems like the best landing spot for Domi. He had an excellent season there 2 years ago so in theory Kyle Davidson would be willing to take him on. He also played his best hockey as a Leaf on the same line as Bertuzzi.

I wonder if Chicago takes him for free or if the Leafs would have to take TJ Brodie and then just send Brodie to the AHL and take the one year 2.6M cap hit to rid themselves of Domi.

I wonder if they'd give us Dickinson for Domi

Another one bites the dust. Great deal for them.

Taxes don't matter though ;)

Let's hope it actually ends up being as interesting as some of us imagine.

I think Jarnkrok/Kampf moves have to wait until July 1stish because of paying out the signing bonuses.

Robertson could be a draft day weekend type of move.

Why are we dumping a 50 point complimentary winger who raises his game in the playoffs?

I was reading their trade board and someone speculated a Cirelli/Tuch swap. That would be a crazy next move for them. I could even see Buffalo retaining 50% on a deal like that and them opening up an additional 3.9M in cap space.

Cirelli is on a sweetheart deal, a top end 2-way center, just had a career year and only turning 28. Not sure I see at all what this does for them. They don't need much cap space to shift into next season and they have plenty of other players they could dump if they want cap.

I believe Cirelli has a full NTC that isn't getting waived for Buffalo of all places lol.

I'd actually be super interested but divisional rivalry likely says it's not happening.

Not sure why people want to move Domi. He was worth every penny in the playoffs and we know he can produce beside AM as a MM replacement.

He's not going anywhere for those reasons. His value is pretty low anyway. He'll be one of the players that I think Treliving hopes can take over some of the offense lost. He needs to be much better though.

Man that is some bs on that Gourde deal...

They gave him a ton of term to get that cap hit much lower. Just like Tanev really.

We are always going to be at a disadvantage with our taxes and super high cost of living... the nhl needs to figure out a way to make it a little easier to get players to come play in pricey markets and keep same amount of money

It depends what they value more. Do they think Paul can replace Cirelli's value if he's elevated to 2C with better linemates? Cirelli's most common 5v5 linemates were Kucherov and Hagel - he put up 47 ES points (20G/27A). Paul's most common 5v5 linemates were Hagel and Chaffee - he put up 35 ES points (20G/15A). Friedman reported they desperately wanted Tuch last year. Do they value Tuch>Cirelli, they are only 1 year apart in age.

I didn't come up with this idea. It was being discussed on Tampa's board.

We’re a month out from Auston’s wingman no longer being on the team. Trading the guy who was second best at that job doesn’t seem prudent.
Tell Berube that he's the 2nd best for the job. I believe that title would still go to Knies but I get your point. I'm a Domi believer if he's with Auston. We just have a season's worth of evidence that Berube is not.
