Ive heard Marchand is looking for 8 x 3.
I'd be shocked if Tre didn't aggressively pursue it. Exactly what he wants in his depth players
It was always only a dream, I wonder if 34 watches ghe playoffs and see just how far he is from McJesus, probably not…….I know we all have a dream that we will sign McDavid next summer
According to John Shannon who follows Edmonton he says the players are treated very well there and as soon as Draisaitl signed his extension it was basically a given that McDavid will follow.
I was feeling confident that somehow McDavid would want to help his childhood team finally win that cup
Didn't Gretzky say he regretted not joining the Leafs when he was in his prime. I don't have the reference before you ask just something I remember reading.I know we all have a dream that we will sign McDavid next summer

If Bennett does walk to Toronto I am 100% convinced Florida grabs McBain to replace him and they just re-sign Marchand at like 3x6M. Either an offer sheet at 4.68M (2026 2nd) or they offer Samoskevich+.
Depends which team. For Florida it’s probably a difference of McBain at 4.68M or Bennett at 7.5M and you trust that you can transpose your team culture on McBain. Florida would take McBain.Who would you rather have?
Bennett @ $9 mil
Or
McBain @ $4 mil?
Pretty risky...Tre talked about guys being overwhelmed by the moment - Toews would be a good antidote for that.
I'm not a fan of punting this year due to being hopefully good players don't resign with their current team. If McDavid / Kaprizov are there next July 1st, you find a way to make the money work.I know we all have a dream that we will sign McDavid next summer

If the Knies numbers are accurate, either should be done yesterday. Unless they're trying to wiggle it down to 7m-7.5m for paying him all in bonuses.
It's funny that we have a lot of cap for once. And we could still use help dumping more bad contracts: Jarnkrok, Kampf, Reaves
5.8M on not much of anything
Outside of Huberdeau, which sounds like an ownership signing, his latest big UFA deals have aged fairly well. Markstrom was dealt for a 1st, Coleman could be traded at positive value right now, Kadri has positive value right now. Weegar is a great contract. Tanev was dealt at positive value. Obviously Brouwer and Neal are the big misses but he appears to have been better later on.That cap space can evaporate pretty fast if Treliving uses free agency to fill up his roster. I really hope he doesn't do something dumb. He had some baaaad signings in Calgary.
Not sure I'd qualify Jarnkrok as a bad contract. I think most teams would take him on for 1 year. He had a rough season mostly injured but he did ok when he was back. I'd dump him just to be able to change the team in every way but I'm ok if he stays with all things considered.

He’s clearly improved since then though which I mentioned. His last 5 years have more hits than misses. You're forgetting players like Michael Stone, Hiller, Raymond and Engelland. Frolik was also a little rough with the 5 year deal at the time but he was a solid underrated 2-way player.
Every UFA signing is a gamble though. Look at Florida - they are still paying Keith Yandle this season. All it takes is one bad gamble and you're dead in the water with that player. This team needs to shift into a smarter way of targetting players and getting efficient value regardless.

Completely agree here although Hakanpaa and Klingberg on LTIR and Reaves costing the Leafs 200k against the cap are hardly an issue compared to the contracts across the league that actually handicap teams. He also hasn't found many great fits either. Throwing out 1 year deals isn't a bad thing at all, but Reaves, Klingberg and Hakanpaa were awful and only used up valuable cap for terrible players and prevented other potential moves or callups. Let's not forget the terrible Kampf contract either.
Considering Pittsburgh received an asset to take on his contract I would say you could get him for nothing. I'm not sure if the Leafs should be acquiring old, slow, unproductive players at this stage though.I wonder if Nick Robertson gets you Kevin Hayes. Throw Domi on that wing and you have a pretty unique boom/bust 3rd line. They won't find their end, but they'll score some goals and throw the body a bit
Couldn't agree more. There are always gambles out there and using free agency should not be the main tool this off-season is all I'm saying.
I wondered about a sweetener coming back, but didn't want to get greedy. I'm not sure there's a market for Robertson either, so my thought was more flyer for flyer and then ride out the final year of Hayes since he only has 1 year left.Considering Pittsburgh received an asset to take on his contract I would say you could get him for nothing.
