i would look at ottawa as a rielly destination, dont know what a deal would look like but their defense is something they clearly arent happy with.
Sanderson
Chabot
Kleven

I don't see a spot for him there. Plus, it would be awkward after the Grieg incident. lol

I think Calgary is most likely the spot, but oh wait, we can't trade with them because the GM is weirdo.

They didn't protect him because Berube didn't value him, and his stock went through the floor.

Here, he has to play Rielly, though. Look at his contract. But he would trade him for Joel Edmundson every day of the week. Then they would be the slowest, least productive D in the league.

I very much agree with wanting Dunn, but it's not happening with this coach.

Colton Parayko (no brainer)

Torey Krug and Justin Faulk were guys with NMC right? Also just signed them

Thomas Chabot and Jake Sanderson at LD...would be surprised.

100% agree, on that contract he can be considered super high value as a 60-70pt winger on the 1st line. he loves to pass and hes not afraid to make a hit. i was super irritated they didnt try it at all this year.
Legitimately insane it wasn't even tried once. I think with Marner all but gone, they will be forced to try it next year to get maximum value out of Max.

UFA's who are 34 or under, 200lbs or more, scored more than 20 goals and CapWages.com projected wages.

$30M will load up our middle six with big guys who can score.

yep, i liked domi more than marner with matthews last year, because it forced matthews to engage more. his game was completely different and more effective style wise...at least imo.

Re-sign Knies, I think he gets around 7.5M

Sign Boeser + Kuzmenko, that should cost around 14-15M

That's your JT + MM money right there

Ask Rielly to waive and trade him, even if it's just a late 1st. Ideally a guy who can fill our 2C, but not sure Rielly would net that kind of return. With the Isles winning the lottery I wonder if they'd be open to trading 30 year old Horvat. He's signed for 6 more years at 8.5 which is pretty steep, Rielly only has 3 years left.

Maybe something like Rielly + Robertson for Horvat with 1M retention, no idea if Isles would consider it but they get a young player with potential in Robertson and get away from the Horvat contract, Rielly expires in 3 years.

I just really don't want Bennett, guy is a complete piece of shit and has concussed multiple Leaf players with dirty hits, and we just KNOW he's getting suspended playing that way in a Leafs jersey.

Sign Provorov for 6.5-7.5

Bring up Easton Cowan next year (ELC) gives us flexibility for the next 3 years

i would prefer brock nelson to bennett personally, plays hard but not dirty and can PK.

edit; i also would rather sign pionk than proverov is salaries are relatively comparable

Knies-Matthews-Domi
Cowan-JT-Nylander
McMann-Laughton-XXX
Lorentz-Holmberg-XXX

McCabe-Tanev
OEL-Carlo
Benoit-Myers

Stolarz
Woll

Trade Jarnkrok & Kampf for a bag of pucks. I assume Robertson won't be back if Berube is going to have a say in roster construction.

Rielly trade should definitely be on the table. Give Cowboy a shot at an offensive role with two vets.

i think we have all seen the 5v5 version of willy and JT, and it doesnt work defensively.

i would put jt on 3rd line with mcann, who played really well together last year for stretches, and another grinder..laughton maybe? (JT needs grinding cycle driven players on his line imo) and then you can have JT take FOs and play the wing. i just dont think JT as a 2nd line center works anymore going forward. hes just gonna get slower and be more of a liability defensively..especially at center.

cowan-nelson-nylander would be interesting

unless were swapping Rielly for Chabot I don't see how they would have any interest as those two players are very similar already Rielly stylistically is the last thing Ottawa needs

then maybe we need a new coach if this is true...

he played Dunn 19 mins in his last season in St. Louis but if Dunn's game went to another level once he went to Seattle which it appears as tho it did, I would hope our coach doesn't is not so stuck in his ways that he wouldn't play him, if he is he should be fired.

Why does everyone still think the solution to scoring problems is to get worse at scoring?

0 depth scoring, D got less scoring, top 6 got less scoring, woohoo.

could be, its clear alot of the NHL believes its the markets fault that these guys underperform so who knows what a gm might think they can turn rielly into in a "better" situation lol.

im looking at 2 FA signings minimum to replace marner production like nelson and boeser or duchene any of those guys can get 60 points fairly easily imo and can spread out the wealth.

because it's not just about numbers lots of time it's about how you score that's important.

Okay cool, but a lot of those guys don't score.

That bottom 6 just put up almost 0 goals.

Historically that D core puts up almost 0 goals.

So now, it is 90% up to the top 6, and when they fail in a game, and get no help again, they will all get the blame.

Duchene doesn't want to play here (unless that changed).

Nelson is an old UFA signing who will likely be overpaid and doesn't produce much (yay).

Boeser has a small sample size where he had a high shooting %, doubt it sustains, but sure, he is a passenger on most lines, not a driver, so we need someone to pass to him.

The UFA class sucks, a lot.

You also listed guys who can "easily get 60 points", who didn't get 60 points this year.

I get it from what was posted if you look at the cap that team probably has close to 18-20 mill in cap space depending on what JT/Knies sign for.

Stars are in a salary crunch. Marchment at 4.5 would be a good add and maybe they could take Jarnkrok in return which would net them 2.4 million but fill a hole on their RW side. This allows Bourque to be in their LW rotation next year. Bring JT back on a team friendly deal at 5mil.

2nd line is paid for by not giving Marner 13 milliion. Knies signs for the diffrence of JT deal plus a million or 2 million

Marchment slide into the 3LW spot. Physical can score.

Knies - Matthews - Nylander
Domi - XX - XX
Marchment - Tavares - XX
McMann - Laughton XX

Which players are signing? The two best alternatives to Marner don't want to play here as far as I know.

They will end up signing Granlund + Nelson + Dvorak or something, overpaying for all, and proclaiming it a great offseason.
