He'll go to a non hockey market.Hopefully Marner goes to the Sens and continues to be useless
I don't even know what you can do this offseason. Obviously just give Knies an 8 year deal but good lord.
You probably aren't trading Matthews. I think you have to ask Morgan if he would consider waiving.
Matthews tooReilly, Marner, Kampf, Jarnkrok, Holmberg must not be on this team moving forward.
Trade the players who don't care
And BenoitSo keeping Knies and Tanev lol.
Not sure what worse: the Kessel era when they never made the playoffs or this era with the annual choke job.
Here is my burn it to the ground scenario.... the team doesn't make it past the first round.

The Cap hit for this is $91,122,065, so if I've underpaid anyone, we have plenty of cap room. It's radical.. .I know, but if we fail again, it's time for a change. Matthews is injured too often to be counted on, LA is a great destination for him, with attractive assets. Marner hasn't been a playoff guy, so we move on... and Rielly, well it's just time to change things up.
Greentree might not be a guy some of you know. 6'3" 216lb RW, drafted 26th OA by LA in 2024. In 64 games for the Spitfires, he has 49 goals and 119 points this year. Between him and Cowan, you've got a future top six RW there for sure... and in the future Nylander/Greentree/Cowan on the RW could be pretty strong, and the last two play with some grit.
Is this realistic... of course not, but we are just guys/gals(?) having fun talking about our team. I'm not sure the team is much better, but then, I'm tired of the same results, and these guys are about as good as I think we could get, given who I expect to make it to UFA. (Meaning I expect Bennett and Chychrun to extend with their current teams).
Well, if they do lose game 6 or even 7. Shouldn't Pelly be thinking "hard reset"?Treliving isn't going to blow it up anytime soon. He's just not that kind of GM. Anyone that thinks trading Matthews and/or Nylander needs to happen are just basically venting.
The easiest path to retooling is just using all that money leaving and finding other areas to improve. Removing Marner and JT will change this team a ton, and probably for the worse. But it's change.
The hardest path is getting all the players locked up to good deals, and being able to add a player or two and TRYING AGAIIIIN.

It's only been two seasons from Treliving, but I've seen enough....
Would there be anything to be gained, either, though? The team has almost no draft picks in 2025, 2026 and no 1st (and 6th) in 2027. There's nothing to be gained blowing things up until then.
The scope of the retool will come when 1-2 core guys leave in free agency this July.

They just won the division they aren’t going to do a reset.Well, if they do lose game 6 or even 7. Shouldn't Pelly be thinking "hard reset"?

Is that the banner we're after? They just won the division they aren’t going to do a reset.
Well, it would be nice not to hand a top 5 pick to either Philly or Boston. That is part of the reason for dismissing BT. But at the same time, it sure feels like spinning your wheels with this lot.Anything is possible. I don't know. Nothing suggests they are gonna reset heavily like that though. A hard reset needs to happen when you start missing the playoffs and you're quite clearly not a good team. Obviously changes need to happen after zero playoff success, but not sure that's the rebuild territory, which would essentially be the hard reset.
It's possible the Leafs fall off the map next season depending what happens this off-season, and maybe that forces some much bigger changes.
