If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

the irony is that 15 goals is what you would hope to get from a mid to late 1`st round pick.
severe underrating of Robertson's goal scoring ability, and he did it with limited time, no PP time on the 3rd line. give him a regular top 6 spot and he's an easy 20+ goal scorer
Robertson is not perfect and a smaller frame but he engages. I hope he sticks around.
If the Leafs can't get over the hump this year I imagine the GM will make changes to build the team more to his philosophy.

If Marner walks, capspace in the summer of 2026 becomes the big priority. Spend the off-season seeing who you can coax into signing 1.year 'show me' deals like Tre did during his first off-season

Yep. I would throw money at Kane. See if he would do 1 year in the Marner spot.

If Vegas goes out they will want changes.
I could see them going after Marner generally as they always want the big fish.

Tax free market. I just don’t see how even they do it.
Even at a tax free 12
They would have to get rid of at least karlson and hague. Probably more.

Unless they tried to get rid of a Petro/stone

I could see them doing that too.

would Eichel and Marner fit together? 2 pass first players?

Vegas is cutthroat and i like that, they are all business.

I cant help but wonder what would have happened if Colorado approached Toronto for Marner instead of Carolina... would Marner have agreed to go to Colorodo to play with McKinnon/Makar (and resign there) vs Carolina, which I dont blame him for not wanting to go. The team playstyle may fit, but, no pure 'sniper' to feed, and they may regress soon, as their D core is getting old.

I honestly doubt it. His wife was due.

When you're already earning like 10-12M...is an extra 1-2M a year worth leaving behind both sets of grandparents and up rooting a baby before they're even 1 year old?

Granted, a lot of players *have* to do this because they gotta go where work takes them but Marner can kind of choose what he wants to do...

Two different coaches have come to the same conclusion that they don't trust Robertson game in game out. He's a pretty dumb player but yes he can absolutely score. There's no hiding him in a top 6 role though, the bad outweighs the good.

If Colorado weren't willing to pay Rantanen they definitely weren't going to pay Marner, is how I see it.

Yeah they defended their decision at their end of season presser that they couldn't pay that much for a few players. Basically hinting at having a more balanced approach to their roster.

Man we are in tough. I don't want to lose Marner or Knies.
You let Marner walk, sign JT fro less than the 7 Million reported or let him walk also. Sign Knies and hopefully bring in some pieces. Team isn't winning with this core anyway. We are doomed for the next few years in my opinion and wouldn't be surprised if we miss the playoffs sooner than later. All started when Dubas overpaid this soft bunch. The writing has been on the wall for years.

I still say we should heavily pursue Marchand this offseason. Would be a good add for a 2nd-3rd line winger

I think this would be the last place he'd play.
Most likely destinations IMO, back to Boston, Pittsburgh or Colorado.

I think he'd play here but it's unlikely.

Boston seems to have turned the page, he wanted term and was willing to go down in AAV but Boston wouldn't give him anything near what he wanted for $$ or term.

Colorado I could potentially see but I guess it depends on if Landeskog is back full time or if this was a last hurrah.

Pittsburgh....I see him being willing to play with Crosby but I also don't know if he'd go somewhere that isn't going to be able to offer a competitive situation.

What if Florida traded Luostarainen? He could stay there.

I can definitely see Marchand re-signing for less to stay in Florida, perfect spot/situation for him to finish his career off.

Yeah, staying in Florida is an option I over looked.

I agree.

They are honest about their lack of loyalty and they don't expect any in return.
