Not trading Kreider to Colorado without Makar coming back.

should demand mackinnon too

OK, maybe if Kreider makes it to the deadline. But you're assuming that moving him isn't part of getting under the cap at seasons start. Two things: Gorton said Kreider won't start the season without an extension. It seems to me that signals he'll be traded before the start of the season. But if moving Kreider isn't part of us getting under the cap, then were going to have to do more moves to accomplish the same.

I wasn't aware that Gorton had said anything about an extension for Kreider to start the season but even if he did---to me there is no point of painting yourself into a corner....especially considering there are other options to get back on the right side of the cap.

Look at it this way--Kreider makes $4.625 mil---Namestnikov is making $4 mil--they're both going into contract seasons--both will be unrestricted next July--that's not a lot of difference between the two as far as cap but there is a very big difference between the two as far as effectiveness or value. So if Gorton said that about Kreider--why not Namestnikov too?--and why force a trade of a more valuable player for less value back than you could get later instead of just moving on from the lesser valued player?--not to mention that Kreider has been a good soldier for the Rangers for a much longer period of time.

Why would they trade MacKinnon? They're trying to win now. I think they'd be more apt to trade their best prospect than to give away a near 100 point center.

is 0% chance less than 0% chance?

So, what's the most likely way the Rangers get under the cap?

Lundqvist should be the buy-out :popcorn:

His buy-out saves more cap space than the Staal/Shattenkirk/Smith buy outs would

The Rangers really need to fix their cap issues this week. I have seen a lot of the Rangers are under no pressure to clear money until right before the season. The Rangers need to clear so much money. Get Deangelo and Lemieux signed so they can report to camp on time. Clear enough money to operate the team this season by leaving ~ $1 million in space. Have a roster of 13 forwards and 7 D.

If the Rangers wait until the start of the season to be cap complaint, all of the vultures will be demanding the Rangers attach assets to move those players or the Rangers basically give away players for nothing.

The 1st buyout period was over one month ago. The Rangers should have used a buyout on Strome and his 25 % shooting %. $433,333 this season and $533,333 next season. Nice and cheap. Strome was so deep in the Oilers doghouse that they traded him to the Rangers for Spooner. The Rangers can't buyout Strome at 1/3 now because his cap hit falls below the $3,455,438 threshold for the 2nd buyout period. The Rangers could really use that $2,666,667 million and not have three more seasons of cap space left on the buyout. Just $533,333 next season.

The entire month of July has nearly come and gone with the Rangers having the same cap issues. Vesey is the only player who was moved to clear money. Namestnikov has been available since the week of the draft. Kreider is available. The Rangers haven't found the right deal for him yet and that right deal may not come until February. The Rangers don't want to give him 7 years/$49M. Not much to discuss regarding a contract extension.

Should be interesting.

The Strome buyout doesn't make sense. It didn't make sense last time you suggested it. Strome was useful here. He has 1 year left. Staal. Smith. Shatty. Those are your buyout candidates if you want to go that route. Kreider and Names should be traded.

Gorton will get us under the cap. Have faith.

For God's sake, they know exactly what they want to do.

They get paid to manage these problems. We are all still sitting at home on the couch.

I am fairly certain we are not playing stump the dummy this weekend.

shattenkirk's buyout would save more...and the awful year 2 cap hits are almost the same

Burying Smith, if the team can fit it, is better than a buyout. No dead cap space years at the end

We cant bury Smith. Only 1.075.000 of his cap hit. And he has to be replaced by Rykov or someone, thats only 150.000 saved.

shattenkirk's buyout would save more...and the awful year 2 cap hits are almost the same

A Lundqvist buy-out would save a total of $3,500,000 in cap space while a Shattenkirk buy-out only saves $2,866,667

Smith = $2,291,667
Staal = $2,400,000
