Value of: Rossi to Flyers

Again, we don’t have to bend to what you think the trade should be. We can work a contract out with Rossi if there are no suitable offers.

"We" are people talking on a message board. "We" can't create a level of "suitable" because it fits our interests.

"We" should stop speaking like "we" have the answer key that no one else has access to.

And the report today was that Rossi's ask was way too much for what Guerin wants to pay. He already lowballed him with an offer earlier in the year when he offered that 5 year, $5 million AAV deal.

Your choices are:

1. Trade him for the best return, which is almost definitely going to be futures.
2. Give Rossi the 7 year, $7 million AAV deal he's asking for, which Guerin doesn't want to pay and was massively far off from in his last offer.
3. Have Rossi sit out.

You really don't have the leverage you think you do, mostly because of how Guerin seems to view Rossi.
Other than Nylander, who has held out and missed games? It almost never happens

Heard in sports radio out here today that the Flyers were out in Rossi because the price was too high. They were talking about late first or Forester. (Not too sure who that player is?)
So if Rossi is a late first and the Flyers think that’s too much I wonder what the Flyers think is fair?

Could be posturing or the Flyers see the big boy hockey in the rest playoffs, have just hired Tocchet as coach, and don’t want a small centre?
probably. That blogger now has been called out by Russo who covers wild on twitter and this philly reporter is indirectly calling him out without naming him

Then why not lock up Rossi long-term?

I don't see the Flyers doing anything more than kicking tires unless:

1. The trade price is Cates and the Oilers 1st in 2025, nothing more.
2. Rossi is willing to extend for 5-6 years at no more than 5.75 mil.

The Flyers have a long-term plan, and I doubt it includes mortgaging the farm for a 5-9 center whose career high is 14 points more than Morgan Frost (at the same age of 23), and he's looking for a 7-year commitment at 7 mil a pop. Zero chance Briere does that, imho.
Rossi is a helluva lot closer to brayden point than he is Frost.

I get the sense the Flyers front office uses Di Marco/The Fourth Period as a dumping ground for the narratives they're trying to create. His source is probably Keith Jones.

Di Marco's just a mark writing about shit that the Flyers wish was happening. Like how every winter he drops an article about how there's been CRAZY INTEREST from teams looking to trade for Rasmus Ristolainen but the Flyers price is rightly SUPER DUPER HIGH and some team out there is gonna have to meet it.

Jones and Briere think they're really really clever (and then just do the dumbest and most predictable shit). But I bet they think this is a real smart tactic. It's gonna be so funny to see the Bruins acquire Rossi using the Leafs pick they got in the Carlo deal.

I could see a Rossi for Geekie deal

Foerster is a very good player, for those wondering. 20 and 25 goals his first two seasons, can play either wing, has some skill and a wicked shot. Very smart, too. He really bought into the Torts defend-and-grind thing and did it extremely well, which limited his offense but showed he could be a truly excellent defensive forward when needed. His offense erupted again at the end of the season when Torts got fired. Good kid, does it all, plays like he cares.

Flyers are wise to value him—and other teams are wise to ask. Not exactly the same style player, but he could have a Patrick Sharp-ish career (regular season, at least). I don't think he has more value than Rossi, but I think if you're the Flyers you prefer to see if you can acquire Rossi without trading away someone who would make a great linemate for him.

3way trade involving Rossi, Flyers 6th OA pick and the Habs . Wonder if there would be anything that would make sense?
Flyers pick is what i would try to upgrade to.

Forester for Rossi just makes a lot of sense
I think it could be revisited at the draft, especially if Martone falls to the Flyers

It would make a lot more sense if Flyers offered a late 1st, Wild countered with Foerster or Foerster+, Flyers balked at that and that rumor got it skewed or backwards
