Value of: Rossi to Flyers

This would most likely take Philadelphia out of any talks for Rossi.

I don't think any team even CLOSE to the lottery conversation next season is trading its 1st for Rossi. The Flyers have 5 more 1sts and 6 2nds in the next three drafts, so they don't lack draft capital to trade, but that's the one they're probably not giving up (nor will Buffalo or Boston or Pittsburgh or any other reported suitor—at least, not without top-5 protection).

I am interested in what the Wild are actually after here, though. I feel like they're probably targeting at least some NHL talent—they're trying to get over a hump, I think, not stockpile futures.

Hard to let go of Cates, who the flyers turned down a late 1st for last year, but I think it's a fair trade.
Not even close to fair. 1st of all wild don't need any more 3c. Also wild aren't trading a right-handed player who they gave up a lot for in Jiricek for a LHD they don't need

I'm wondering if Rossi gets moved for far less than what fans on here expect. It seems like his contract extension ask is going to tank his value.

the late 1st part is some lie that isn't true. Russo who covers wild has made it clear wild will not take picks in this draft. either a win now player or they are prepared to let him get offersheet

Wonder if he wants 10+ a year long term? With the dearth of top 6 centers in the league and available it’s weird the asking price is so low or even that he’s available in the first place. Size can be an issue but you can always move him to the wing

His ask is apparently a similar deal to Boldy's deal.

My guess would be that he's a little more realistic than that.

I think what teams would be willing to pay for Rossi depends a lot on who else they have available at center. For someone like the Penguins, they have literally no one in the organization that projects to be a top-6 center and Malkin is retiring after next year. They just got a spare 1st rounder from trading Pettersson at the deadline, so I can definitely see them being willing to do that NYR 1st for Rossi and then pay him the 7x7 contract he wants. Their draft pick also falls a bit too late this year to get one of the top centers in the class most likely.

But compared to someone like Philly, who wants a top-6 center but already has a fair amount of undersized centers in their organization, they may be a lot more hesitant to paying a 1st for Rossi and then paying him. This is especially true because I think Philly drafts Desnoyers or Hagens in the draft this year and they took Luchanko in the draft last year.

Josh Yohe posted an article earlier today that said the Penguins really like Rossi as well, and I think the NYR 1st would be an obvious piece to shop there. Curious if that ends up happening.

I don't see why not. McDonagh was traded during the conference finals last year, and Kuemper/Dubois, Markstrom and Ullmark were traded during the finals.

Is there something in his contract saying he can't be moved? I didn't think RFA eligible players had anything like that.

that guy made up the part about the late 1st round pick part. if you go read Philly's board, they say he makes crap uo

It doesn't seem like his contract deals are that far off for "both teams to balk." If MN can work a deal around Tippett +, I'd do it. He'd be ~1m cheaper and is more of a Guerin player archetype. I wouldn't move Foerster though.

Thats the price? Is that a typo?
Either or?

if that is the case, the Canucks will gladly give 15th for rossi and sign him to 7x7 lol

its a typo. It's been debunked by wild beat writers Joe and Michael russo who has explicitly made it clear wild are seeking win now players and now picks especially in this draft. If you go to Philly board, they are saying the guy make crap up

Team don't trade win-now players for RFAs that want huge contracts. You're only going to get picks back for him.

The Penguins do not have the type of piece the Wild would want back in a trade. I’m sorry, but a 1st does nothing for a team trying to be a contender.

If Minnesota is trading Rossi's RFA rights, he's almost definitely getting traded for picks. Teams don't trade players under contract for RFAs who need a contract.

The only example I can think of was Vilardi going back for PLD, but that deal also included a good bit of futures going to Winnipeg as well.

Uhhh I would deal Rakell for Rossi. That’s a win now guy for an RFA.

I mean yeah I would to, but when has a move like that happened in the NHL?
