Confirmed with Link: Ross Colton Traded To Avs for #37 OA Pick In 2023 Draft, signs 4-year x $4M deal

Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - RyJo - Mikko
Wood - Colton - Foudy
Cogs - Meyers - LOC

I still think Foudy is more ready than Olofsson. There is already enough engine on the third line it doesn't need LOC. Putting him on the 4th should help keep him fresh and we all know how he looks when over used.
Olofsson is 27, and spent a lot of time in the NHL last year. He's getting that spot over Foudy for sure.

Olofsson, the guy Dallas traded to us for nothing. I think he’s more likely to make the opening night roster than Meyers because he’s not waiver exempt and will be cheaper. If they sign someone else Meyers is pushed down and his pay doesn’t matter as long as it’s under the bury limit. He only has waiver exemption for 10 more games so I think they’ll play the game of keep him down until an injury forces him to stay up. So I absolutely wouldn’t take into account what his contract will be in regards to remaining cap space. I think it will be more like 800k anyway. He’s either going to try and get one way, term or if that doesn’t work high AHL pay in exchange for lower AAV.

Doh I was also completely thinking of Olausson.

Maybe we can acquire all variants and simply confuse opponents to death. Also the Altitude folks.

Yeah, unfortunately all real faith has been lost in the rookie, at least based on the prospect polls. Seems doubtful he's anywhere near making an impact.

4x4 is perfectly fine. I would have loved getting a 5th year, but this is still acceptable.

It wasn't a "steal of a deal" by the Avs, as I don't think they could have gotten that anyway. Not with him being 1 year to UFA and having an arbitration date coming up. He and his agent used that leverage. Good for him.

That said, I think because he fits so well on the Avs that this will still be a fine/good deal. I mean you can look at it two ways: that he is making 500k more per year than JTC made on his last 4 year deal. If he provides the same level of points (but likely a higher level of compete) then we're paying 500k more; or he's making 1.1M less than JTC is about to make on his new deal while very likely providing the same level of offensive production.

I mean...no matter how you slice it, I don't think this is a straight up "bad" deal for Colorado. My view is that, at worse, he provides similar level of production that JTC provided on his 3.5M x 4yr deal, and the Avs are paying 500k more per year for that.

At best it proves to be a good deal for Colorado because he might have untapped 2C upside (albeit, likely lower-end 2C).

Sure wish some of the people in this forum would have been at the negotiating table. Sounds like we could have gotten him for 3.75x4

I *might* be off here, but I think he’s saying this:

He has a chance to win the 4C job out of camp but lots of people are overlooking that possibility.

Nice. I think we're pretty set now. With LTIR and no cap accruing, I doubt they'll add anyone (except at league minimum). With some uncertainty with Drouin, RyJo as 2C, etc... I bet they try the prospects, work the waivers and wait for trade dealine to decide if they keep Girard or trade him to boost the offense with a rental. Girard's money will be needed for Toews next year (unless they know beforehand that Lando isn't coming back).

Loving the term. The contract also shows we have faith in the boy. Should be able to play up and down the lines, and he certainly will go to a new level given our 6 fellas at the back being the best in the league.

I think he could really blossom here in Colorado in a Kardi / Bura / Nuke / Donskoi type of way under coach Bednar.

Can't put a price on pedigree, and if you could, then we've got Ross on the cheap.

Lot of people are sleeping on Ondrej Pavel at 4C.

Definitely possible. I do think he or Meyers will be given the spot and the other will start in the AHL.

I really hope this is what we look like for opening night:

Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - RyJo - Mikko
Wood - Colton - ????
Cogs - Pavel/Meyers - LOC
Olofsson

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
Johnson - Byram
Hunt

With the ??? personally I want Tatar, but Suter would be fine as well(He could be the Center on that line then with Colton on the wing) or perhaps Toews. Don't have enough space to get Tarasenko and I dont think we make a trade for anyone either.

Looking at some Twitter reactions, a lot of people on that platform don’t know hockey. They just look at a point total and call it a day. No evaluation of minutes played, or other aspects a player brings beyond raw production.

Some people saying the Avs ridiculously overpaid for a 4th liner lol.

You need the Makar’s, MacKinnon’s, and Rantanen’s to win cups, but Colton is the kind of player you win with in the playoffs. You need f***ing competitors. Warriors.

Imo, this is Lekhonen 2.0, except a more physical version.

Bro.. I’m pretty sure the email I started my account with is inactive now, so I had to switch over to some random account I must’ve made a while back.

Right after I got my ‘veteran’ trophy too. Damn shame. Went from like 20K posts to like 5.

I guess we’re starting from the ground up.
