What I dislike about hits like this the most is that IF Colton really wanted to, he could have gotten the puck and made a play.

Hard hits are part of hockey and learning to receive hard hits is part of being a rookie. But this is just an example of a guy trying to hit another guy instead of play hockey. It's a 50/50 puck and Colton decides to go for a hit before he even reaches the bottom of the circle and initial contact is made at the goal line, all while the puck is just there to be taken.

Get this shit out of the game

Not all Avs fans think that. The crosscheck is easily the most idiotic event of this whole ordeal. Easily a 5 minute and I'd say he's lucky he got the misconduct because if he didn't, he'd likely have gotten a 1 game suspension. I think the refs got this one right on the money.
Obviously not all Av fans are saying that, I didn't mean to imply that they were. Just all the people that are, are Av fans.

With all due respect, I would've rather he gotten the suspension.

$5000 fine for a player making 4 MILLION per year is not adequate AT ALL.

Anyway...yes I know it's the Maximum allowed (and that max is complete BS designed by the NHLPA to make sure players that commit these acts lose the least amount of money under the guise of "Oh! He's receiving the MAX...the MAX...did we mention the MAX?" as if mentioning the word would satisfy justice) but come on now.

Real punishment is SUSPENSION.

DoPS is an absolute Gong Show (that's a viewpoint I'm sure even many Avs fans share with me).

To be frank, the only way I would accept Colton getting only a Fine is if it was for 1 MILLION dollars.

Maybe if they fined players that much, which would REALLY put a real DENT on them financially, then perhaps they won't pull this sh*t often (if at all).

5k punishments would only hurt everyday people like us working 9-to-5 jobs trying to make ends meet.

They don't hurt players making immense amounts of money yearly (hell, even AHL'ers make a ton that 5k doesn't do sh*t).

Fines are a joke, $5000 is nothing for them. I would have been fine with a 1 game suspension for the crosscheck and time served on the Hughes hit.
Oh well, though not worth getting fired up over, he got his punishment we need to just move on.

I agree with this take, I think this play could really be looked at as interference in the future.
