I expect we’ll have players who play better together in a week or two, and having Dach or Suzuki as a centre would be a lot better.

Typical Roy game, though. People are bashing him for only scoring one.
Were people bashing him? I commented on how on two occaisions when the puck got to him he got caught standing still but also how he did make a decent play in the Ozone to get the puck to Beck. Is this considered bashing? I'd like to know for future reference.

It’s one prospect, exhibition game…..essentially a pick up game with talented teenagers. I agree lots of our guys looked lost and unprepared but that’s mostly on the coaches and a lack of preparation. Now part of that is due to the nature of rookie camps but anyone who understands short term tourneys knows hockey fundamentals and positional play is usually the KPI’s your looking for. we should not be surprised it’s the same as last year with this coaching group…when you think about it, same thing the last number of years. Unfortunately we have no player development specialists and if we keep hiring Hab‘s alumni posing as development coaches we’ll get what we alway got.
On a positive note we had kids who looked good and at the top of that group is Reinbacker he has a strong foundation of skills.

pretty obvious were gonna run into lack of high end talent, frustrating considering its been the problem for the last couple decades
This is what happens when you base your rebuild off of acquiring 3rd-4th-and 5th round draft picks. MTL has not properly rebuilt like the other teams who do so by loading up on first and second round prospects to acquire elite talent.

Our talent is very middle of the pack, lots of good depth players but no elite skill or talent, except on the back end. Our offensive will continue to struggle for the next decade it appears. And unfortunately we don’t have Carey Price to cover all of our weaknesses.

Roy is the prospect I'm most excited to watch in the pros this year. He's done everything he can at the junior level, and his offensive potential is sky high.

I think Beck's path to the top 6 will be based on being the most responsible guy who can also contribute offensively. His skating, defensive play and shot will get him better wingers than his offensive talent would otherwise dictate. Call him a ''montreal first line center'' lol.
Most see him as a third line center maybe even a fourth.

I disagree, he showed the highest skill level.

These games are meaningless and dumb as they are unstructured and difficult for high IQ players to play in because teammates are not where they are supposed to be. He easily was the most advanced player on the team when the puck was on his stick. Fast skaters tend to stick out more in these games but the pro potential was more evident in Roy than any other forward on the team tonight as he made a handful of beautiful passes and showed a deft touch while stickhandling as well as a couple of great puck possession/protection sequences.

It is the subtle things in these games that you have to look for. There were others that were more obviously noticeable but he was head and shoulders the most impressive when he had the puck.
His line was totally disjointed. It's all well and nice to say he was head and shoulders the most impressive when he had the puck but let's face it he didn't have the puck nearly enough.

Nemec played 64 games last year and had 34 pts and he's part of the camp. There's absolutly no reason for Slaf to miss this camp.

He needs games under his belt and this is a nice soft entry into the new season.

Someone explain to me why is Slaf not in it, aside from trying to shelter him from bad press
It's a rookie tournament. Slaf's not a rookie.

This is a long thread. A lot of people said Roy was invisible or disappointing. I wasn’t referring to your comments as “bashing.”

We absolutely have development specialists and coaching has nothing to do with these exhibition games. This organization is currently a leader in developmental techniques and has an intense focus on development.......the Bergevin era is long gone.

These games are about letting the kids play, offering instruction after the game and growing relationships. They are not about structure and winning.

I really don't like Houle. He's got too much Lefebvre in him. Two years in a row he's telling Mysak what he can't be.
I don't see that at all.

Houle is doing exactly what is asked of him and has done an outstanding job of preparing players to seamlessly assimilate to the NHL when the opportunity arises. I don't see any grounds for serious criticism other than subjective perception.

I don't know if he'll make it that far, but I think Beck could have a career like Danault. Middle 6 on most teams.

One unprepared rookie exhibition game and some ready to jump off the bridge.
Maybe the fact that our prospect pool isn't all that deep should be considered.
Did Buffalo rookies start their camp well before the Habs rookies started theirs? Fact is, this team was ill prepared from the first puck drop.

Oh and one more thing...Buffalo had 5 first rounders amongst their forwards and we had Mesar.

Can't wait for Houle to be fired.. get someone who doesn't handicap their players before they play a game for them and continue that through their next season of their development.
