Seems like a bit role. I liked him as AGM. Thought Philly didn't give him a real chance.
He was here for 5 seasons. He did really good job getting out of Homers mess, but when it was time to turn the page and improve the team he did not do much.

He was/is too stubborn to admid his own mistakes, not firing Hakstol, sticking with really bad players he signed. It was time to let him go in Philly.

Damn Blake, you mostly took my plan and ran with it.

Rumor: - Planning Ahead: 2019 Off-Season

Hire a Head Coach + staff and then define their roles for the PK, PP etc..Wanna get the new coaching staff early so they feel like they are part of the rebuilding process.

At the draft
Move targeted pieces for cap space\picks
This is a huge draft year. Get some bluechip prospects with those early picks!

After Draft
Sign UFAs to fill small holes in roster but the goal is to get the young players to earn their ice time.(i.e Wagner, Leipsic)
Add to Player development(We need to start seeing results with our F and D. Our goalie development has been great so far.)
Establish a culture and plan for the next gen of players and execute it throughout the farm system and summer camp.
Hire Hextall. His leadership, pedigree and being a hardworker in the front office will translate well to the new culture we need to establish.

Ron's going to need an assistant.

I can see the release now. "The Los Angeles Kings are happy to welcome Dean Lombardi as Assistant to the Part-Time Advisor to Hockey Operations." That would look awesome on a business card.

He didn't want to freeze his ass off back in Philly during the winter,.. Can't blame him

Disagree. Flyers gave him a great chance to flex his wings and he did, he was a good GM, drafted (for the most part) well and turned the barren wasteland of a farm system into a fertile valley. However, his ego got in the way. He is a bit on the arrogant side (his way is the only way) and wasn't flexible when it came to implementing changes. Who knows, if he'd fired Haks a year before, when he should have, maybe Trotz signs with Philly. He wouldn't fire Haks, (when the owners wanted to hire Q to be coach) and wouldn't agree to hire Q,because Q wanted some say in personnel moves and Hextall wants all the say in personnel moves. His initial mantra of 'patience' was great however, it became an obstacle when the team was dyfunctional and the need for change was a risk that should have been taken. He (by media accounts) at times could be mean, other things, like no alumni being allowed in the locker room and only certain family members. Kept the same PK coach even tho the PK was awful for 4 years, and got angry when he was questioned about this and other non moves.

I am very grateful for the years he was here and the great things he did, and hope that he learned a lesson or two about growing in the role of GM and will change some of his ways.
But he wrote his own fate by not recognizing that his opinion is not the only one, that other voices should be heard and being flexible is a key component in how to sit tall in that GM chair. He needs to learn that 'balance' is good tool and one that he needs to learn to use.
