I'm so saddened by the news. My thoughts go out to his friends and family.

It's days like today when we get the reminder that team loyalty doesn't matter - I know you all were watching his journey much more closely and I know this hurts you all, too. My condolences.

Truly a SAD SAD day for the hockey community and Leafs nation. I remember being so happy we selected him. He was a star at the WJC, everything in his life looked so bright. When the news first hit, I was floored. I am now, just devastated. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family friends and teammates. Rest easy Rodion :(

Such awful news. I really thought he was coming around and turning a corner. Didn't he actually play a few games last season??

And @Hexroot Please tell me that you accidentally pressed the laughing emoji reaction to this thread and it wasn't done on purpose.. Because if it was, then you are one classless f****** douchebag and I don't give a shit if I get banned or docked on here for saying that.

Really sucks for his family, to have a young man like that pass away before the prime of his life even.

I had my father and uncle pass away from brain tumors 2 years apart some years ago. My dad went real quick in 6 months after diagnosis, it was unfortunately inoperable. My uncle was a bit longer about 18 months.

This is a tough read. An interview with Amirov’s agent about his last days. Run it through a translator.
«Родион сказал в апреле: «Ну что? Вот я, здесь, живой – а меня уже похоронили». Какими были последние дни Амирова

Had to have been Glioblastoma. Once symptoms show up it’s already too late. Amirov knew he was gonna die, yet carried on with courage and positivity like few could.

**** cancer.

A really tough read, but important too just to fully understand how devastating and awful cancer is. Sadly, it all did feel inevitable from the get go, just the nature of the disease. I keep thinking of opening night last year and how in awe he was to be there. I'm glad he got that moment and all who helped make it happen. Says a lot about Dubas - and the Senators organization - their willingness to go even further if he his health had allowed it.

I'm so sorry to hear that and I sincerely hope that you and your family have been able to recover from those losses as much as you can

I'm sure there are many others like me who had never heard of glioblastoma prior to Gord Downie's death from it. Since then, there have been three friends of the family or of another friend who have passed away from it. It's one of those "death sentence" type of cancers, sadly, and hopefully researching inroads are made in trying to help stagnate the disease for those afflicted from it.

Just terrible. There are things above hockey, but when you hear about a young man like this with such an incredible future opportunity before him, get cut so short, it really hits a nerve.

All the best to his family.
