Sending him back to the mess that is Russia would be the last thing I would be doing right now.
He's an athlete and he has cancer, he's not going to be subject to the stuff the average citizen might like conscription, and also has the support of one of the richest teams in the NHL, and their medical resources...it's a little different than America since the warring nations border eachother, but for a guy like him it's probably not going to be a whole lot different than a team sending a young player back to the US during their 2000s invasions and wars.

It's not even a little bit close. They had constant shortages in medical supplies like painkillers to the point that injured veterans and chemo patients were committing suicide before the war started, that situation hasn't gotten better. If the war escalates and more countries ban Russian visas, he may not be able to get to Germany for specialized treatment as easily next time.

I should've worded it better, but surely hes better off staying in Canada and having access to some of the best health care in the world and his recovery/treatment be monitored.

Also Russia is making it hard for males to even leave the country right now, so when he next needs to go to Germany or Canada it might not be so easy next time.

Canada and best health care in the world do not belong in the same sentence. Not trying to spark a debate here, but aside from access to medicine and research, Canada isn’t the best place to get care for serious illnesses.

Let's not just assume that Canada is the best health care in the world, Canada is only known for the health care because it's free, not the best.

As for the whole Russia issue, I've seen plenty of posters mention how Russia is making it difficult for players to leave the country, when really, I haven't personally seen any player who's had any issue. Not everything the media states is true, especially regarding everything that's happening in Russia.

It's not the best, but it's up there when hospital budgets and resources are being cut. Having the "best" doesn't mean much if only a handful of people have access to it which is a pretty major factor often discounted.

Guys his age may have trouble leaving, but guys his age who are A) potentially a financial asset to the country in the future and B) currently not in condition to be of use in the military, I think he'll be ok. I think it's fair to assume Scooby Dubas has done more research on his national and international mobility than we have.

The narrative we're forcefed with regards to each and every world event isn't the full story and never has been.

I've probably said too much already as the highly informed types who always adopt the latest thing swim in these warm waters.

Knowing what we know of brain cancer, and seeing it first hand in multiple people, it seemed to be a too-good-to-be-true miracle that he seemed to be winning the battle on it relatively quickly.

Wishing him all the best in this next round of fighting, and may he continue to have the strength and courage to kick its ass!

Given what Keefe was saying earlier and all we know so far, it's hard not to get despondent reading the statement. Hope he can find strength with his loved ones.
My thought after reading the statement went immediately to Keefe's comments last week as well - he must have known more than what we knew. It seemed like quite an unusual comment to make for a kid that we all thought was doing pretty well.

They played a tribute to him at the Leafs game Saturday night describing what he was going through. He wasn't there, but I was surprised he wasn't given a standing O. There were some, but not many. Seems like a good kid. Can't imagine.

Dudes 3 years younger than me. Crazy he's had to go through this battle the past year plus

Hope he beats it completely and can be 100% cancer free for life

He's definitely got the mental fortitude of a champion

If I were in his situation at age 20 getting diagnosed with brain cancer would certainly have given up.

Praying for ya Amirov

He was receiving a lot of his care in Germany which arguably is the best Healthcare and cancer treatment in the world

The use of the word comfort scares the crap out of me. F*** Cancer

Yes everything was very positive and out of no where the tone has shifted considerably. A few weeks ago there were murmurs he was going to get in with some Marlies games. Now he isn't allowed to train and they are talking about him being comfortable.

Lost my father to this shit disease, not fair at all to see such a young man have to deal with this. Kid had such a promising future and full life ahead.

Yes not sure if there are many types of brain cancers
But my family went through this and there doesn’t seem to be any cures for brain cancers as with time they tend to change into the bad ones. They come back and have to keep dealing with it.
Hoping it’s something that can be treated
People say these things are rare and they keep coming up more and more regularly now it seems
Praying for the kid
Who cares about hockey just hope he lives a good life
