One way to do it is use pre-1983 rules before they added OT. Anything tied at the end of regulation is simply a tie. That would make him 242-143-103.

I wish it were easy to view modern coaching records by regulation wins alone.

I might have miscounted his OT/SO wins (I counted 56 rather than the 58 you have).

As to your last paragraph, I guess you miss the part where I stated his pre-OT/SO record would have been 244-143-101.

If that was true there’d already be pitchforks….yet I’ve seen nary a one aside of fans of teams that can’t stand us for whatever reason.

We’re happy to be a top team and in the playoffs every year. It’s hard to win the cup, coach is only part of it. RBA gets the respect he gets because he finds a way to push the Canes further than they should get on paper. He gets the most out of what he has.

Our goaltending, pp in the playoffs and lack of scoring depth overall is what has stopped us from getting past the third round - not the coach. Everyone knows this.

Of course Canes fans and the org want to win the cup, but as mentioned, it’s really really hard to do. You might not know this but only 1 team out of the entire league wins it every year.

There’s no formula for ‘winning the cup’. If there was then it would be known and every team would follow that plan.

The Canes are built on putting together a competitive team year after year. They’ve made the ECF twice in 6 years and have won a playoff round every year that Rod has been coach, something that no other team in the league can claim.

Are these the ultimate goal? Hell no, but the majority of our fan base (at least on here) aren’t so emotional and shortsighted to completely meltdown just because we don’t win the cup every year.

He's an old school coach where he gets the players to unite against the thing making their lives miserable, ie him, thus building team cohesion. It's that old quote about Scotty Bowman, we hated Scotty 364 days of the year. On the 365th day we got our rings.

Except instead of making the players hate him, he directs their ire toward their true enemy....the refs.

Truly he is the Peoples coach.

I'd say your bark is much worse than your bite.

Canes have had no problem staying competitive while letting high priced UFA's walk so not really worried about that. You sign the players we don't want to keep and we still somehow manage to be better than NJ.

Very strange for someone to give any sort of 'advice' when this is how their team has performed over the last decade.

1. Missed playoffs 8/10 years
2. Finished last or 2nd last in the division 8/10 years
3. Bottomed out for 1OA pick and then were gifted another 1OA

I'm glad you can reminisce about how great the Devils were 25 years ago when they had generational talent to lead them to some cups. Canes have still won a cup more recently and have also thoroughly embarrassed the devils in the playoffs every time they met since then. If the bar for success as a Canes fan is so low then for a Devils fan it must be about 6 ft under at this point. You should be so lucky to be as good as the Canes since Rod has been coach haha.

The Canes have won a Cup more recently than the Devils have, and have made the playoffs just as often in that timeframe, and won more rounds, and won a LOT more regular season games.

To find a time when the Devils were the more successful franchise, you need to go back over 20 years and completely out of the post-lockout era. And the crazy thing is, this all includes a 10-year playoff drought in Carolina. Being worse than us during this period requires being ****ing horrible, like borderline Columbus or Arizona level. So if the only thing that will make you happy as a Devils fan is winning championships, I strongly recommend choosing another sport to follow for the sake of your own mental health.

All anyone in Carolina is saying is that we’ve paid our dues and it’s nice to follow a contender instead of a gutter team. We’re currently in the sweet spot of enjoying ourselves without being spoiled or taking the success for granted. If it all climaxes with a Cup, great. If not, it was a good ride.
