Ok, this one I'm struggling with.
If you know the answer, help me to understand.

McCabe is a major defensive liability. He averages 28:26 minutes of ice-time on a team that allows 3.36 goals per game. Not exactly flattering defensive numbers.
Seriously, do people watch hockey anymore or do they just look at "Oh hey he's got alot of points he should be on"...

Rush5Collapse5 said:Right, because a lot of points are a bad thing.
I've watched maybe 6 Calgary games this season, and was always more impressed with Phaneuf. I've watched maybe 12 or so Toronto games (including most of the Ottawa battles) and saw McCabe get burned a few times (but not as bad as the descriptions I'm hearing in here)and score like a forward on the PP.
Pronger, Scott Niedermayer and Foote all seem more than capable enough defensive rearguards. Jovanovski is another name I could have titled the thread as contested, he's just as much of not more of a liability than McCabe, but scores less.

You assume correctly sir.And even with MCCabe's better offense,Regehr is still twice the d-man Bryan is.Rush5Collapse5 said:I assume you mean the "stay at home" elements, because clearly his scoring pales in comparison.
Exactly.Well put.TransportedUpstater said:One thing Team Canada does not lack is scoring punch from its forwards. They will not need a defenseman to score many points here.
The "stay at home" elements you speak of are at the end of the day MORE important for a defenseman than the offensive aspects.

While I don't disagree with your initial point, you post does make me wish HFBoards had a filter that would allow me to ignore any post with the phrase "Learn some hockey first" or variants thereof.kolanos said:Give me a break guys. Regehr and McCabe have NOTHING in common, they are completely different players. If you're going to ***** and moan about McCabe being snubbed you should be looking at Jovanovski, because has way more in common with McCabe and all his defensive gaffes.
Better get used to Regehr, he's going to be filling Foote's shoes soon enough. He's one of the most physically dominating defenceman in the NHL, period.
Need some help understanding this decision? Learn some hockey first...

Robyn Regehr is a better defenseman than Bryan McCabe by a fair margin.
Bryan McCabe is not as bad defensively as many on HF would have us believe however. It's just the latest excuse to denounce McCabe's strong play (over the years we've gone through - "use of can opener", "last year was a fluke" {referring to 03-04 season}, "won't be successful in the new NHL")

Last year McCabe was nothing short of brutal on the big ice in Sweden. In fact, he was gonna be benched because he was so bad. He got mad and took off before it happened.
For that same reason, makes be wonder why Doan was selected. The guy looked like a pylon at the last WC.
