So if you listen to the way the coach is talking about Lehner it sounds like things are getting pretty bad in Vegas between Lehner and the coach, almost to the point where from the outside looking in it doesn't look like Lehner is long for Vegas.

If he hits the trade market what kind of value can he bring back in a trade?

I can think of a few teams that would be interested

Toronto and Edmonton are the obvious ones but I do wonder about Detroit too I wonder how sold they are on Ned? then there is NJ if they decide to move on from Blackwood

I will say as a Leaf fan I don't know if this is the right fit, Lehner has been very open about his mental health issues and I wonder how he would handle it here, or in Edmonton for that matter if mid December hits and he starts to struggle and the fans and media get on him, because we would, and so would Oiler fans and media I know that because I live in Alberta.

Either market could go very very bad very very quickly but at the same time if he does hit the block Toronto and Edmonton are the obvious landing spots

I wouldn't claim him off waivers. He's an absolute headcase and has the lateral movement of a beer league goalie, and it's only getting worse as he gains weight. $5m isn't the worst cap hit but it's still a large chunk of change for a goalie with that many problems

A problem between the goalie (under guaranteed contract) and the coach is only a problem if you think the coach is going to be around for a while.

It's not just a regular problem though when asked about the injury he said something along the lines of "I'm only concerned with the guys that are here helping us battle."

that's not what's usually said it's usually "he's a big part of the team and we hope he's back as quick as possible."

those mean different things.

VERY different things

Considering Vegas' cap issues they may have to pay some team to trade Lehner (if they wanted to). I'm a Lehner fan, I just can't imagine many GMs out there who will be willing to help out Vegas with their cap situation.

It sounds like it means the coach is a moron who wants his goalie to play through an injury? :dunno:

Sabres fans laughing at what is playing out. The exact same behaviour as when he was in Buffalo. Get ready for him to torch Vegas on his way out the door.

Dude was right to torch Buffalo. He saw the same issues with the team as we Sabres fans did. Of course, had they made smart hiring decisions, it’d be a different story.

Regardless, I’d still take him back with Buffalo, but only if Vegas adds Whitecloud to him. And that’s not happening.

Right. I guess you can put me down for expecting him to be the Vegas goaltender next season and DeBoer shown his walking papers within a couple of weeks of the end of the regular season (or perhaps they'll wait until the end of the playoffs).

1) He is a headcase
2) He is not a good goalie

I would rather have Dell play net and I can’t stand Dell.

Bet he ends up in NJ. They’ve had major issues between the pipes the past couple years. And it’s a quiet market per se, so probably a good fit for lehner as well.

I know watching a Sabres team that fights for each other and is seemingly drama free is a weird feeling - we are all learning to cope with this new dynamic.

But you don't have to sabotage them with Lehner, just to try to bring back the feeling of despair that has been the Sabres comfort zone for so long.

Things are going to be ok.

Embrace the positive new dynamic. You will get used to it eventually and you may not only learn to accept winning, but you might actually start to enjoy it... given enough time.

I heard Buffalo will be setting up a 24hr 1-800 number to help fans deal with this "despair void" that is inflciting their fan base. Hang in there, help is coming ;)

As I said, only if he came with Whitecloud. As in him being traded with Zach is a necessary evil to get the player needed. Lehner can then LTIR himself. Or IR himself. Or anything where Buffalo doesn’t have to pay prime assets for Zach, which Vegas would (justifiably) ask for.

He would have value if he wants to leave.

When he was healthy for Vegas this year he had a .910 behind what was awful defending in front of him from Vegas with all the injuries. And that's in an environment in Vegas that has always been unwelcoming to him.

If he were on a New Jersey or a team without all the crap Vegas seems to always have going on, he'd probably do even better than he was before his injury.

Even if that were true what could Vegas attach to him? they have traded A LOT of futures

According to what he's said in interviews, the Sabres training staff wanted him to work out and ride the exercise bike while he was recovering from an ankle injury, so maybe he had good reason to torch them on the way out.

I mean he wasn't the right guy for Buffalo, I said he wouldn't be all the way back then but that doesn't mean he's a bad goalie.

I think if you put him on Edmonton or Toronto he'd be great, assuming his mental issues don't get to him.

You can’t rely on him because of his injuries and his mental issues. And you will never win a shootout with him in net. A goalie you can’t count on is not a good goalie.

Lehner has significantly more value
Vegas got nothing for Fleury.

With all the issues and what’s been happening in Vegas wouldn’t be surprised at all if teams saw Lehners value as negative

No team is looking to do any favours to Vegas

I didn't say they were but he's still more valuable than Matt Murray.

Matt Murray has fallen completely off the map

You're saying that like he was the only guy who had problems in Buffalo at that time... What about Ryan "Buffalo made me lose my love for the game" Was it his fault as well?

Lehner has also said absolutely nothing so far so I'm not sure what behaviour you're even talking about. In fact, he even played the good soldier and stayed with the team until they could get their cap figured out (unless you think he's responsible for that as well?).
