Welp...the Mayor just confirmed it. I have no problem with it. Futa would have been great but I'm glad he'll still be a scout.

Dean Lombardi needs a vacation. You couldn't choose a more disliked person if you could.

You guys need to take a step back and realize something about Blake. While most Kings fans may not respect him due to how he left the team, the man is very well respected by his peers. Maybe Lombardi wants someone on his staff who commands that type of respect among players and the NHLPA, and he's also someone who served a fairly significant role with the NHL.

Not happy about it at all really. His banner raising ceremony is going to be pandemonium.

He better stay the hell away from the GM spot. Something goes wrong and we could be looking at Kings GM Rob Blake...

I'll just say this, Blake needs to make amends for his actions as a player if he wants the fans respect. Otherwise, it's going to be absolute bonkers at his banner raising ceremony.

Maybe I'm remembering things differently, but I think the hatred for Blake is largely misdirected, probably because of how it played out.

Let's take a trip down memory lane to reflect on how this all started. The Kings' rocky relationship with Blake started when Leiweke presented Blake with an ultimatum. They weren't interested in negotiations -- they presented Blake with a take it or leave it offer, and he was threatened to be traded if he didn't accept. Yeah, that's quite the way to treat your team captain who had spent the past decade plus with the team.

Since negotiations began in August, the Kings have made two offers to extend Blake's contract, which will pay him $5,267,500 this season. The first was believed to be for five years at an average of $6 million per year. The second was believed to be three years at an average of $7.5 million per.

It was accompanied by an ultimatum, Blake said.

"The way it was outlined was either 'take this or leave it,' and I'm not going to take it," Blake said.

His agent, Ron Salcer, is a bit puzzled by the Kings' stance.

"I represented Dave Taylor in all of his contract negotiations and he was never bullied," Salcer said. "Nor do I think he would accept being bullied."

Let's not forget that the team pulled the same crap with Luc, low balling him after he led the Kings in scoring, and forcing him to sign with the Wings. Then the following year they pulled the same crap with Philippe Boucher. Year after year after year the Kings under the control of Leiweke lowballed their top free agents and lost them all. There's a reason why for so many years they shoved crap like Steve Heinze, Erik Rasmussen, and Trent Klatt as top six forwards.

I blame Leiweke for blowing the Rob Blake contract negotiations and chasing him out of town and painting him to look like the bad guy. There's a reason why so many Kings players were emotional and distraught when Blake was dealt. The team at that time was a blackhole, and us long time Kings fans saw long time Kings players like Blake and Luc win Cups elsewhere due to the incompetency of this franchise during that era.

And yet Luc managed to be professional about the whole thing. And I think Kings fans would have let it go if he wasn't such a turd on his return.

So what are we going to be offering Brown again after his cap friendly figure that helped us raise our first cup?

Yeah but he pulled the same crap in his second stint here. Oh, and he was massively overpaid in his second go around. When he had a chance to help the Kings get a first round pick, he declined to waive his NTC. Then after the season is over he rejects Deans offer and goes to San Jose. He claims he wanted to retire a King and all that...but he didnt do a damn thing to help out the org then. **** him.

If he wants to make amends, that will be a step in the right direction. Otherwise, he can get bent and we'll repay the favor at his banner night and boo the **** out of him.

Yeah, this. WTF, LA Kings?

Not to defend Rob Blake here, because I'm not, but if a player has a NTC, he has zero obligation to waive it unless he wants to. He doesn't get that put into his contract just so he can help the team out in a trade down the line. If he had a NTC, he likely didn't want to be moved during the contract, and he invoked that right.

Complete BS. Blake can go to hell. This has been one of the worst off seasons I can remember. Today 2 hated people join the kings. Yay.

Is there anyone who actually likes this?

The fact that everyone to this point are still so butt hurt is because deep deep inside they really do love em some Blake

Right, and he wanted to stay with the Kings. He wanted to retire a King...that is until he hit the FA market and took the highest bid. He didnt listen to Dean, went to whoever was offering the most. He wasn't willing to do what it takes to stay a King.

So Ziggy can deflect all the blame on lieweekly, and honestly...that's partially true. Lieweekly deserves a lot of blame but Blake is at considerable fault as well and hasn't made amends with the fans.

Blake was honestly my favorite player through the 90s (sans Gretzky and Luc) and he literally chucked all that away in his second stint with the Kings. We massively overpaid him, and he wanted to get massively overpaid and retire a king...sorry pal.

DL didn't ask Blake to waive his NTC. DL talked about how he didn't want to trade him ultimately because he wanted to have a shot at re-signing him in the offseason.

But I remember some speculating Blake didn't like his role as mentor (some writer wrote it, but it was speculation, so grain of salt), and wnated to focus more on winning. Not sure why you would want to bring in someone like that back.

If I ahd to guess, I think DL is trying to create the same type of feeling the Flyers have in their franchise as the Kings do in ours. He wants the players to come back and serve to instill franchise pride. Thats probably why he chases after Gretzky so much (Gretzky mentions this a lot, that him and Lombardi talk often and he is often asked to come serve with the franchise). I'm guessing current players would have a little more respect seeing, not just someone who's been there before, but someone who's been there in the same uniform.

With that said, I wished it was more DT than RB.
