Dean Lombardi needs a vacation. You couldn't choose a more disliked person if you could.
Jeremy Roenick. I rest my case. I don't mind Blake. I'd take a swing at JR if I ever saw him.
You guys need to take a step back and realize something about Blake. While most Kings fans may not respect him due to how he left the team, the man is very well respected by his peers. Maybe Lombardi wants someone on his staff who commands that type of respect among players and the NHLPA, and he's also someone who served a fairly significant role with the NHL.
Not happy about it at all really. His banner raising ceremony is going to be pandemonium.
He better stay the hell away from the GM spot. Something goes wrong and we could be looking at Kings GM Rob Blake...
Since negotiations began in August, the Kings have made two offers to extend Blake's contract, which will pay him $5,267,500 this season. The first was believed to be for five years at an average of $6 million per year. The second was believed to be three years at an average of $7.5 million per.
It was accompanied by an ultimatum, Blake said.
"The way it was outlined was either 'take this or leave it,' and I'm not going to take it," Blake said.
His agent, Ron Salcer, is a bit puzzled by the Kings' stance.
"I represented Dave Taylor in all of his contract negotiations and he was never bullied," Salcer said. "Nor do I think he would accept being bullied."
Maybe I'm remembering things differently, but I think the hatred for Blake is largely misdirected, probably because of how it played out.
Let's take a trip down memory lane to reflect on how this all started. The Kings' rocky relationship with Blake started when Leiweke presented Blake with an ultimatum. They weren't interested in negotiations -- they presented Blake with a take it or leave it offer, and he was threatened to be traded if he didn't accept. Yeah, that's quite the way to treat your team captain who had spent the past decade plus with the team.

Let's not forget that the team pulled the same crap with Luc, low balling him after he led the Kings in scoring, and forcing him to sign with the Wings. Then the following year they pulled the same crap with Philippe Boucher. Year after year after year the Kings under the control of Leiweke lowballed their top free agents and lost them all. There's a reason why for so many years they shoved crap like Steve Heinze, Erik Rasmussen, and Trent Klatt as top six forwards.
I blame Leiweke for blowing the Rob Blake contract negotiations and chasing him out of town and painting him to look like the bad guy. There's a reason why so many Kings players were emotional and distraught when Blake was dealt. The team at that time was a blackhole, and us long time Kings fans saw long time Kings players like Blake and Luc win Cups elsewhere due to the incompetency of this franchise during that era.

Yeah but he pulled the same crap in his second stint here. Oh, and he was massively overpaid in his second go around. When he had a chance to help the Kings get a first round pick, he declined to waive his NTC. Then after the season is over he rejects Deans offer and goes to San Jose. He claims he wanted to retire a King and all that...but he didnt do a damn thing to help out the org then. **** him.
If he wants to make amends, that will be a step in the right direction. Otherwise, he can get bent and we'll repay the favor at his banner night and boo the **** out of him.

Not to defend Rob Blake here, because I'm not, but if a player has a NTC, he has zero obligation to waive it unless he wants to. He doesn't get that put into his contract just so he can help the team out in a trade down the line. If he had a NTC, he likely didn't want to be moved during the contract, and he invoked that right.
