TSN, which has continual coverage on the subject this morning, is reporting that the buyouts can only happen once THIS season is over. So, Redden can only be brought out prior to the 13-14 season.

yup...which explains all the talk about what to do about redden this season, trade him or sit him

...like it never happened.

Had a friend who just e-mailed me "So, when are we going to a game?"

I replied hes free to watch with me on my couch at any time.

Im not putting any money into this cluster****. I know everyone is excited that they're going to see hockey again, but this deal has done nothing to address the long term issues with this league. See you again in 2020.

Haven't put any money in since the last lockout. Certainly won't now. Both sides take the fans for granted. It's clear to see why.

If Redden looks good in camp he gets a shot to play. He can't be bought out with the amnesty buyout until after the season, at which point he only has one year left. No worries of him getting injured as, if he's injured for the last year of his contract we stuff him on LTIR and suffer none the worse for it. He could be motivated to save his career and be alright for the bottom pairing (compared to present options).

Little worried about our success this year. A 48 game season is a bit of a crapshoot.

agreed I am personally looking to see them make the playoffs and going in they need to be playing well. It may take some time for Nash to click with his linemates.

Going to be a fun ride though. Playoffs is really what matters for this Ranger team.

Also Torts wont have a full camp of kicking everyones arse with his crazy sprints ,etc

Maybe they take the risk , also there is TWO summers of buyouts so they have next summer and this. Is he really going to get hurt anyway? It is risky so I can see both view pts of just sitting him to ensure they can buy him out next yr and the theory heck we are paying him and he's on the cap so lets see what he can do in camp

Oh sweet jesus.

Quick question, should I buy tickets now or wait to the day of for the prospective opener? $135 to sit in Section 227 sounds a little high, but I'm not sure.

They don't have two summers. The $64.3 cap is the 2013-2014 season. That is Redden's final contract year. This upcoming summer is the only buyout period relevant to Redden.

Since I won't be spending a dime on the league this year or next, hopefully a lot of national TV games so I can watch. Or hopefully we'll have our streamo working again this year.

Eh, more like hockey is back so all of the injustices can be put aside for now. Being bitter accomplishes just about as much as worrying about the inevitable.

Yep. Why would I try to prove a point and "boycott" the league when it's going to accomplish nothing?

I'm not going to spite myself and not participate in something I enjoy to prove a point that I couldn't prove anyway since i'm not a millionaire.

ahhhh good call I just assumed that contract was FOREVER

can't believe this may get worse for Redden atleast he was playing hockey in the AHL but this yr he may sit out the entire yr due to the rules meaning his value next yr would be pretty crappy. Oh darn I guess has 6 million reasons to be ok with this

I honestly don't think there's anything to boycott. We have a season. Every league loses games in labor disputes. Losing the whole season was the real problem, and that was avoided.

So am I reading this correctly? Buyouts can be done after this season and next season? So we could buy out Richards after the 14-15 season is completed? We get two more seasons with him for a cup run then we can re-evaluate to see if that cap hit is still worth it with an older Richards and see who is available at that time.

I was thinking the exact same thing Bubba. That Richards contract could become very dangerous if his game drops off a cliff in the next year or two. I like having that option for the second compliance buyout.

This new AHL salary above 900k counts against the cap rule means Slats needs to be careful with his yearly horrendous 4th line signing. The Patrick Rissmiller's and Brash's of the world will now count against the cap. Can't hide them in Hartford any longer. Thankfully it seems like we will be able to navigate out of the last year of the Redden contract or else that would have been a cluster F with the cap going down.

If he's really that broken up about it, I am sure the Rangers would be more than happy to mutually void the contract.

That would cost him approximately $6.3m [$3m of his salary this season (5m prorated over 48 or 50/82) plus $3.3m in what he'd be due from a 2/3rds buyout of his 2013-2014 salary).

I'd expect he could earn a $1m/year contract at this point, so he'd really be losing out on $4m or so.

torts has awaken from his slumber in the caves of gotham, hes spent the past 100 or so days plotting and scheming to plan for a RANGERS CUP RUN GO NYR

Redden has something like $6M coming to him. The NHL is usually a 186 day season. 48 or 50 game season. Begins January 19. Say it ends April 25. 97 days. $5M salary. Redden is owed $2,607,527 for this season. $5M salary in 13-14. 2/3. $3,333,333 buyout. Redden is owed nearly $6M. If Redden doesn't play this season, good luck getting a decent contract next summer. Three years out of the NHL. Not playing for an entire season at 36 years old. Redden is currently 35.

TSN saying it's Jan 15 if it's a 50-game season; Jan 19 for a 48-gamer

Stuff on LTIR for how long? The moment Redden is ready to return, the Rangers need to free up that cap space. Torts doesn't like Redden. He couldn't play in the NHL 3 years ago. He has only gotten worse.

If the league had any perspective at all, they'd let CenterIce be free on all cable carriers for the rest of this season.

Unfortunately, that would take away from precious HRR.

In fact, any time the league or PA say "fans" from now on, you can replace it with "hockey-related revenue"
