Hire Sather
He Is Our Star
why are some of you looking to dump Pyatt? He is on a 1 mill contract and is a very solid bottom 6 forward.
Rupp on the other hand..

I wouldnt rule this out.
Redden has to be on the cap this season, and he wants to continue his NHL career. If we had a viable option for a #6 defenseman, I wouldnt even be considering this - but we dont.
A motivated Redden playing for his NHL future might be a better option than Bickel/Eminger/Gilroy. They should give him a shot.
Will be interesting to see what happens with Redden. If you still cannot buyout an injured player, the Rangers are likely to make him stay at home for the shortened season so that they can buy him out over the summer without the risk of him being injured.
However, that's a pretty big layoff for a player to not be playing any hockey, and it may impact his ability to get a contract when he becomes a UFA.

Unless they removed the provision that prohibits a team from buying out an injured player, this is absolutely not an option. There is no way they take any risk that Redden would be forced to remain on the 2013-2014 64.3m cap. It would be absolute devastation to our lineup.
So am I reading this correctly? Buyouts can be done after this season and next season? So we could buy out Richards after the 14-15 season is completed?
He has 1 year left, and he wouldnt count against the cap if injured. Theres a lot of reasons to attack Redden playing with the team this year - this isnt one of them.
I agree Ola, I think Redden will be traded to a team with cap room with a pick or prospect, he brings them up to the cap floor and then can be bought at at the end of the season. This is a move Sather is probably been working for a while seeing the writing on the wall.
Someone should send Slats a pallet of Jolt Cola, he needs to get back to business. Alot could potentially be done here.
-Redden is a cheap buyout. He can be bought out for around 4m I would guess.
-We will not use Redden until he can be bought out.
-There are plenty of budget teams who has very expensive buyouts and who will opt not to make them because they can't afford it.
Vincent Lecavalier and James Wisniewski are two examples. VL is owed 50+m and Wish is owed 27m. That's alot of money for two budget teams.
*Would CBJ do Redden and Pyatt for Wish and Boone Jenner? We would be able to use Wish this season, and he would be of great help to our PP and give us a really deep blueline, and then buy him out in 5 months. CBJ saves like 14m by trading Jenner. That's alot of money.
*Would Tampa trade Lecavalier and a first and a third for Redden? They save like 31m. I guess that's alot of money even for Dolan, but there are plenty of other potential targets...
Personally, I don't think they should be on the same line together. Put either Gabby or Nash on the second line.
Both Rupper and Pyatt are on 1.5m.
As to your question, we will need a heavy weight and Rupper is very good in the room. We have already lost core character players in Anisimov and Dubinsky. With that in mind, and if we need to save 600k, Pyatt is atleast a option. But I wouldn't mind keeping him either.
Heavyweights are overrated. We need the best talent possible. I wouldn't keep Rupp over a guy that's more talented than him. Rupp is a 4th liner, Pyatt is a 3rd liner. I don't know what it is with fans' obsession with fighting. The Wings don't fight and they're the most successful franchise in hockey.
So many topics, I don't have time to write!!!
Personally, my belief that is for this team we have right here -- we need a heavy weight. Guys like Callahan and co will not back down and let a goon on another team run around without being challenged. If we don't have a goon, someone else would be fighting goons on other teams and I do not want guys like Callahan fight those guys... Or McI when he gets a shot in NY. Atleast not every game. We have lost alot of toughness already in Dubinsky and Prust.
I just think it makes sense to keep Rupper.
I get your point to, and I think its valid in general. Not just for this team.
Someone spark up the "line-combo" thread.

And all is forgiven.
