Was never a fan of Kimbo at first. It was mostly to do with me being an MMA snob, and following the sport since 2000 so when he came into EliteXC with all the hype it wasn't an unreasonable argument to suggest that we would get eaten alive in the UFC at the time. Still, he was marketed as someone who would destroy Fedor, and that did not sit well with me.
But I still watched.
Then he ended up on TUF and that's when I saw that he was just a straight up good dude. And to me, that's all that matters. That's when I became a fan of him.
I've seen a lot of "say what you will about his MMA skills" and yeah we could say a lot. But despite all that, knowing he was such a good guy, it made me root for him.
He was a gentle giant who loved fighting and he did it for all the right reasons.
RIP Kimbo.
