On the positive side, I'll also always remember this clutch goal he scored as the wings were fighting to get into the playoffs in the last few games of the season

I don't know if guys like Riley Sheahen get to "retire". They are basically told that there is no demand for their services anymore. Nothing personal and he had a decent career, but it is not like he's walking away from an NHL job right now.

I don't know why his name is so familiar. I must have seen a game where his name got called a lot and it just stuck with me. Hope he enjoys his retirement.

The day Sheahan was drafted I went searching for scouting reports and I remember reading something along the lines of "sometimes plays like a third defenseman" and I was so underwhelmed with the pick. Unfortunately, those feelings never got any better either.
