But how are you ever sure, until you actually see them play? Some players simply can't make the transition immediately, while other like Brodin, Faber, and the like make it look easy. Dumba spent quite a while going up and down, as did Zucker, and countless others.

Getting a player in the organization allows you to move them up and down as they develop and learn to adjust to the NHL. Keeping them over in the KHL doesn't allow that to happen.
Being sure doesn't mean you're going to be right for a fact. Nobody can know the future, so you just make yourself as sure as you can by waiting until they're developed to a degree you think will translate to the NHL.

If they need AHL time after that, you're going to have to either make them tough it out in the NHL, or risk their flight from the AHL. While I love the Wild scooping up skilled Russians later in the 1st and 2nd round, the Russian factor is a factor for a reason.

23 Russians played in the AHL last year. It's usually the "top" Russians that take flight to the KHL. The ones who are more middling players, they have been mostly more willing to play in the AHL.

I'm not saying he'll definitely, 100%, not report to Iowa, I'm saying I wouldn't risk that unless I had to. If he proves he can't hang in the NHL yet, then I'd have to. If I just want to give Heidt 9 games, but decide I don't want to send down any of the other 2-3 options, that's not having to, it's wanting to.

If they bail out and goes running back home to mama, so be it. I want fighters willing to tough it out and develope, rather than entitled little boys.
That's why I love Rossi. Puts in the work, doesn't want long summer vacations and shows the FO that he does all he can to be the best player possible.

that is a hard question should you tough it out and take all the crap? imo depends sometimes coaches / bosses are fair and hard on you but also sometimes coaches / bosses are A-holes. i've always been anti authority so i could have retired much earlier than i did. i had a buddy who took crap for 30 years then was guaranteed full pension at first he was yes sir your right sir anything you say but after 30 if his boss was unreasonable he'd just walk away or leave for the day and when his boss said we can fire you he said go ahead i get my pension and a check for his stored up vacation which was over 30k! needless to say his bosses just left him alone after that (union job)

Really hoping he turns out to be a stud for you guys. I had him at 19 on my Final Top 100 Board. Heidt will tear up junior (again) in his last go round, make Dub defenders look silly

5 point night in a 6-3 win last night. 1 g, 4a. Hit a post, and could've had one or two more assists if wingers didn't blow easy chances. He looks dominant, albeit in a pass first way. A bit faster and stronger than last year. Doesn't seem to have grown much.

I can easily see him taking Zucc's place on the PP, if his game translates to the NHL. The patience, cross ice seam passes, vision, are all there. Only goal was an EN, but it came about because he worked really hard to defend, then strip to point man. Well earned for the Captain. There are some other good players on this team(Parascak, Ziemmer)but he is clearly the best player, though it can be argued that Parascak is the better goal scorer.

2nd in P/PG in the WHL, though i would argue that I care less about counting stats, and more about how fast, strong, smart, and responsible he looks. I did see him battling down low in the defensive zone (as i did last year), as a C should. While he might end up as a wing in the NHL, i see nothing about his game that would disqualify him from being a C, at this point.

Two goals last night in a 5-4 loss. Both were on snipes, which is nice to see from this pass first guy. Also set up Parascak in OT with a nice pass, but he pinged it off the crossbar.
Heidt continues to look vg, and works reasonably hard defensively, for an offensive player.

3 assists on the 4 goals that PG scored. First one was a nice one touch pass across the crease for a tap in. Announcers were calling it a candidate for goal of the week, until the 2nd one, which was even nicer. He carried the puck through the neutral zone with an acrobatic move around a checker, then, went around the flank of the dman and found his man in front.

He created at least 2-3 other really nice scoring chances that weren't converted on.
He's scoring at about the same pace as last year. Looks stronger, and more assured. He dominates play, but mainly with his vision and passing ability. Not flashy, really, but he makes really fast, smart decisions. I can see him fitting right onto a line with Zucc and Kap, at leas in terms of offense. I think the above skills are NHL ready right now.

Otherwise, he could shoot more. Off the puck play looks fine. His strength looks fine at the WHL level. FO's at 55% or so... could be better. Speed is well above average for WHL, but not blazing, or electric. No idea how those traits will translate to the pros. I am guessing that he will need to continue to improve all those areas in order to be effective at higher levels.

Another two assists. He forced a poor rim around by a goalie by a strong forecheck which led directly to a goal, also. Looks vg out there. Very smart, great passing and vision.

Ravensburger stopped 30 of 31 shots. He'll probably be a 1st rounder.
