I got a "Go Canes" last night when I went to pick up dinner, this was maybe 30-45 minutes after Game 7 ended last night.

Today some dude yelled "Boston sucks!" while I was walking to my car. Turned around and he was looking at me giving me a thumbs up, was wearing a NY Giants tee-shirt.

Hell of a game by this team. I just watched the Pens-Rags game so now we know who we'll be playing in round 2.

The biggest thing about Boston that kept coming up over and over for me was how good they are defensively. I don't know why they looked like a train wreck against us in the regular season but they cleaned that shit up in the playoffs. These were the two best defensive teams in the league going at it. I put Boston right up there with us, and over Calgary and certainly NY, who completely relies on elite goaltending. Boston did a fantastic job all series getting guys in front of the lane, clearing up rebound opportunities, and making us work for every inch of the ice.

I love that we beat Boston because it's a mental chip off our shoulders gone, but more than that we found a way to score against a team that stingy. And this was with Svech and Aho doing very little on the score sheet. I'm confident those two will look better against NY because they can't defend as well, and the games will be more open for the skill to shine. This series was all about point shots and deflections and finding a tiny tiny bit of space, because Boston was giving us nothing. I think that prepares us better going forward than if we played a run-and-gun team.

Against the Rangers the challenge will be about solving Shesterkin and about shutting down their top line. I see the Rangers and Bruins both being pretty shallow teams, and the Rangers are arguably shallower than the Bruins. The Rangers' skill of Panarin, Kreider, and Zibanejad are probably even more skilled than Boston's top line, but they are easily worse defensively. The depth underneath those players did have some moments against the Pens, but ultimately I think the guys like Lafreneiere, Kaako, Chytil, and company will be depth players and not impact players. Strome is pretty good and will get some points. On defense, Adam Fox is an elite player but he has his moments defensively, and I think Carolina could take advantage. Trouba is more skilled and more goony than Forbort. I'm not as worried about the Rangers' defense, but a guy to keep an eye out for is K'Andre Miller. He looks incredible when I watch him. Just so much skill. But he is also a rookie, and there are opportunities to win matchups against him, especially from our veteran players.

Also special teams will be scary again. Really they're going to be scary in any round we play from now on out. We move from Marchand/Bergie/Pasta to Kreider/Fox/Panarin and co. The Rangers have more skill with Panarin and Kreider as a net front. If we lose to the Rangers, it means we probably will have lost the special teams battle. On this note, if we do advance again, we'd either play Huberdeau/Barkov/Verhaege or Point/Kucherov/Stamkos/Hedman. So yeah. PK gonna be tested.

Something funny that crossed my mind... Canes made that twitter video about all the Bruins fans saying how regular season doesn’t matter and obviously since we eliminated them we get the last laugh. But it goes even further than that. Considering that the home team won every game, if the Bruins had swept us in the regular season instead of vice versa, they’d have had home ice and very well could have won the series. So all those regular season games where we smoked them were of tremendous importance.

It was a Twitter of fans. Means nothing. Regular season matters. Playoffs matter more. End of story.

yeah but we could've met in a later round, etc. the point is those regular season meetings got us home ice advantage in the series which ultimately got us the series win

The same could be said of this upcoming Rangers series. We won the clutch games against them at the end of the regular season and got home ice in this series because of it
