I was watching Pietrangelo in the playoffs and he reminded me so much of Nick Lidstrom. The way he uses traffic to camouflage his shot without getting it blocked. He would have been a huge get for us. Pair him with Morgan Rielly and you have a Stanley Cup caliber top pairing.
That JT $ sure would have come in handy for Pietrangelo or Hamilton

Blaming the powerplay on Rielly, as so many constantly do here, is a massive oversimplification and only serves to let the other 40 million dollars on the ice with him off the hook.

Rielly has been an effective part of that powerplay before and can be again, so it's clearly much bigger than Rielly has no slapshot
I don't think I was blaming him but his shot always gets blocked .
There's a reason why sandin was on the #1 pp .

He should be moved. Unfortunately this management group missed the ideal window to trade him when some people actually were fooled into thinking he was elite.

At this point any trade would just be to avoid losing him for nothing when he asks for his raise next contract.

If Rielly leaves our transition game takes a massive hit. He's decent at defending, not great but not awful. But he excels at getting the puck out and skating. Rielly is a great #2, only reason people want him gone is because they expect him to be something he's not...kind of like what we did with Phaneuf. Neither were truly #1D but they can excel in the right position. I'd like to hold on to him. Defence was not the issue this year, in fact it was our biggest strength.
Too bad he'll want #1 D money, since they all see Dubas as an easy mark.

Man I wish there was some way to convince Mo to take a 8 year 40M deal which would be heavily front loaded.

Kind of like the RNH deal except RNH who saw his caphit go down from 6M to 5.125 while Mo stays at 5M

I'd even do 8 years 45M. That would be a deal which helps the team and Mo doing us a big solid in exchange for bonuses, and a full NMC

He'll want more no doubt as he's a quality 1D and still going to be in his prime for half a decade atleast. Still I wonder if he feels with 30M he's already made, going for a guaranteed and front loaded 40-45M might sound enticing along with all the advetisment opportunities and future earning opportunities he'd have if he stayed as a leaf for life

Players want max money and term here

Get rid of Reilly. The D core needs a new look. Holl and Dermott are not Top 4 Dmen right now on a Cup team , the Leafs are in a Win now stage but have weak goaltending and D core....

Would Hamilton sign 5 yrs, 33 million @ 6.5 million cap hit? Possibly.

Try at least $8m x 7 years. He will want the same contract Pietrangelo got at $8.8m.

Morgan Reilly is NOT a quality 1D, holy shyte I cant believe I read that. You could say he is a 1D on a bad team maybe Ottawa (Chabot?) Winnipeg, Anaheim etc but Quality??? 8 years NFW, he will be on cruise control after 4 years, his skating fading and nothing and I mean nothing else like a shot or physicality to fall back on. Then he is a 3/4 at best. Yikes:eek::eek:

Guys who can skate like him, can skate, maybe lot of other things fall off the table, but skate...hahahah, Mo, will be able to skate into his eighties. He is just an elite skater, period. He also has a very well contained mean streak. AND a potty mouth.

I love Mo. Hopes he goes somewhere where he feels wanted, but I HAD one wish for the guy, get a slapper, a clapper, like Bobby Orr had.

MO, is and was, one of the top ten skating dmen, of all time.

Mo might be the only f***ing player on this damn team who is willing to take a discount despite everyone around him trying to rob the team. In my mind, Mo is a true leader. Always has been. I suspect a deal will get done for Mo because he is a top 15-20 defensemen in the league and he wants to be a Leaf. The critiques of Mo are so fitting for Toronto. This guy is a very talented player, and yet because he is our go to defender we have to shit on him 24/7. Was Gards before him, Dion before that, Kaberle before that, and then McCabe before that. It will never f***ing stop with this fanbase lol. Mo has been one of the best D-men to ever wear the Blue and White. He still has a f*** ton more game left, and MOST IMPORTANTLY HE LOVES BEING A MAPLE LEAF. How many f***ing times do you hear about these morons like Doughty say they would never want to be a Leaf despite growing up in the GTA. Yet Mo, A Vancouverite, openly says he doesn't want to play anywhere else. It takes a certain type of player to enjoy this type of abuse, I just don't see why we'd be keen to move Mo. Especially if he takes a "hometown" discount

Tyson Barry replaced Morgan on the #1 pp last yr.
IAM just saying if I am signing a dman for 7 mil he needs to be in the #1 pp.

I honestly wonder if Reilly's lack of success on the PP is self inflicted or mandated. He almost never shoots and always uses his lame wrist shot to ill effect. I know he can take a slap shot...but the question is why doesn't he? It doesn't have to be like Weber's or Chara's...just hard enough to make it bounce around a bit on the goalie.

The fact that everyone that fills that PP spot plays the same way makes me believe its not the players...its the coaching and management that are making that choice.

Rielly has played for 4 NHL coaches and I can't ever remember him consistently using a slapshot

The clincher for Tavares wrecked the rebuild is not having a D to replace Rielly.
