Rielly suspended 5 games -- Appeal Denied

You’d think Rielly is a murderer the way some people are now talking about him. As if no other player in the history of this sport has let anger get the best of them and they made a poor choice as a result.

But the point being, without really any prompting, my 11y old son (who plays) knows that it's wrong. Frankly, if it happened in one of his games I'd expect someone to do something. It's a punk ass move that deserves a punch in the face.

Anyone saying otherwise is wrong, straight up. I don't think he meant to get head, but he did, and oh well, take 5 gamer, 100%.

Yeah, and I don't think it ever crossed Morgan's mind what to do in that situation.

I think he spoke pretty well on behalf of Leafs Nation with his on-the-spot reaction.

You have to imagine the Leafs believe they have some sort of evidence that would counter the DOPS justification of the suspension.

I have no real insight what this could be, but wonder if they can demonstrate that there wasn't intent to hit him in the head, and rather the cross-check started on the arm and rode up due to Grieg's reaction.

I think they are just doing as a formality more than anything else

Why do that though? They need to build a clear case for an appeal, which takes time. Didn't Spezza's get cut after he served the time? Just not sure why you do this if you don't really believe you have information to the contrary that needs to be considered. Unless its just another example of standing behind their player?

Their case would already be built, they would just be making it to Bettman, not Perros.
The team and player would decide together on an appeal. It's doubtful the team would stand in the way of the player if he wanted to do that.

2 or 3 games was the right amount. Can live with 5 but DOPES will have a lot of eyes on them moving forward.

They will appeal, probably unsuccessfully. There is evidence of suspensions this season that were more severe or the same receiving a lighter suspension. We'll see.

Not sure it was a poor choice or an intent to injure. Harder cross checks happen every game in the crease and not called.
Press over reacted, Parros the thug loves press as shown by who announced the 5 games.

The press showed many similar examples receiving fewer games, so if Parros likes the press he would've given Reilly a lighter suspension.

The NHLPA appeals most suspensions so they can the player can get some money returned.
 
I thought they announced on tv that it can't be appealed if it's less than 5 games?

Also I thought I heard that Treliving would be addressing the suspension, did he talk about it yet?

It can be appealed to Bettman, it can't be appealed to an independent 3rd party arbitrator

Seems excessive for a shoulder check that became a face wash because of a Sens player who has tiny shoulders. 3 games max is what this should have been but there is a 50% tax on Leaf players.

Jacobs is just a jealous SOB who can't help himself .. he hired Bettman and Bettman hired Parros .. Parros is nothing more than Shanny was .. a mouthpiece for league .. Leafs get hammered so Jacobs can show Tannenbaum, Molson and Dolan who is da boss with his gang .. time to create a super league for top 8 tier teams who can pay twice salaries of da NHL and lets get back to best on best hockey again like da old days .. all da best players on da best teams - EAST Toronto, Montreal, NY Rangers, Flyers and WEST LV, Chicago, LA Kings and Oilers .. all da other teams can play tier 2 hockey with Jacobs/Bettman rules and let da gang fight among themselves

One has to wonder that Tre was planning on ripping into the decision, if he's planned media talk is getting postponed/ rescheduled.

Also interesting to see an agent's view on the DPOS



Walsh is certainly very outspoken a lot of things, but it is interesting. He notes that one. The decision was very clearly leaked by the league to media before it was announced to the team, which is incredibly amateurish and bush league, also referring to it as a kangaroo court is pretty telling.

The only people who seem to be happy with the DPOS is the commissioner of the league lol
