His entire game is predicated on the rush. He doesnt have exceptional vision or an exceptional shot. He is at his best when he can get a head of steam and generate on the rush in 1 on 1 situations. That become less effective in the playoffs when time and space are limited. He was a pretty one-dimensional player to begin with and now thats getting ravaged with age.

I understand your reasoning, but in Nash defense not his entire game. :) Although Nash scored on one penalty this year. But is Nash a slower player than he was 3 years ago based on the age topic?
My reasoning in Nash case it`s his own mindset, and I`ve mention that the last couple of years concerning playoffs, but last year Nash improved in playoffs related to production, and he had 14 playoffs points in the 2014-15 season. But after that 2014/15 season something happened in Nash case; he declined a lot related to point production, and recently this year he struggle to finish and he knows it. AV knows it as well and mention it last evening interview indirectly to Nash that the team and him need better finishing if we are going to compete and qualify for playoffs this season.

Anyway if we don`t succeed to qualify - we`re going to join the lottery for a top draft pick in 2018 for sure, and honestly I don`t know what is best option for this franchise in the 2017/18 season to get us into a stronger contending position next year with an additional top draft pick, and hopefully another core player to aim for the cup in in some years.

Nash could have taken us to Game 6 if he lifted the puck a bit. It goes right along the ice, allowing Voynov to deflect it. He had enough space that lifting it would have gone over the stick, and into the net.

5 minutes later...jazz hands.

I can't believe I have to even comment on this again.....but that puck is rising.by the time it's on net it's probably dead center of the net...and in.

No shooter...in any level...anywhere...is going to try to go bar down on an empty net. You want it low..ish

And you want it dead center.

I just can't even.....

I'm done here. I don't want to be defending Nash because he's not been good this season..but the stuff people are digging up...it's ridiculous.

Nash is on an expiring contract so just let him walk . He’s truly not a bad player he just doesn’t finish like he used too

He’s not getting traded in a playoff race

Nash scored something like 3 goals during 45 playoff games or so during that stretch. As a close to a $8m forward, that's as close to losing games for your team as you can get. Even a $.5m 4th liner without any PP time would be disappointed with that scoring pace.

Ive never seen a guy so snake bitten in one season than this guy. This guy couldn't score on a soccer net at this point. He's had so many games where he should have multiple goals. Cannot resign him.

He made his second very good pass of this season today that led to a goal. I have been on him to pass the puck so I have to give him credit when he does it. Both of his very good passes were similar plays although on opposite sides of the rink. On the side boards to the wide open man in front. Well done Rick.

He had like 3 fantastic passes in this game alone. But sure.

I said, "second very good pass of this season today that led to a goal." Today's assist was a very good pass. Fast's goal earlier this season was a very good pass. Has he had many other very good passes for goals this season that I forgot? I was complimenting his pass. I hope he does it more often.

He demonstrated that he can pass the puck when he wants to. He should try to be playmaker Nash. And he shot for rebounds with Vesey in front and caused some havoc today.

So good passes that lead to goals are cool..but good passes that don't aren't? I just thought good passes are good passes...what happens after the pass is made is beyond the control of the passes.

Why do you keep twisting things that are actually said in to other things? Did I ever say that good passes that do not lead to goals aren't cool? Why would anyone say that? I'm glad Rick made a good pass that led to a goal yesterday. I hope he continues to pass. I have wanted him to pass to open men for a long time instead of trying to fight through multiple guys. If he could make some forward head man passes that will help open up his own game.

The whole league KNOWS he a "shoot first" ask questions later player. He draws a crowd (always has) but like mentioned, if he would pass the puck instead of trying to be "what he once was" maybe, just maybe he would have 10 more assists. We probably could've used those 10 goals or so. So yeah,he contributes to losing in that portion of his game.

That's not really true.

January 15th on: 3 goals in 7 games
February: 8 goals in 13 games
April: 2 goals in 4 games

February was his 2nd highest goal scoring month. And his highest point scoring month.

There was really just one stretch in March where he didn't do much. 5 game pointless streak and 7 games with just an assist. Overall he only had 3 goals and 8 points in 15 games. His shooting percentage for the year was a ridiculous 13.8% but an equally ridiculous 4.8% in March.

14-15 is in many ways the opposite of this year. Especially the start. Nash undoubtedly played well but never seem to be controlling portions of the game but was very productive. This year he's been noticeable with generating chances but is... whats bigger than a snake? Anaconda bitten? Dragon bitten?

I like Nash but between his injuries and his production (or lack there of) never matching his play he can be infuriating at times.

I would probably look at the four goals in 10 games he had starting on Jan. 8th, half of which came in a game against Pittsburgh. For me that was when it really first started.

February featured 8 in 13 games, but it also featured half coming in a three game span to start the month.

From Feb. 22, is when it really hit the wall and became hot/cold. In 18 games that includes the last week of February and the entire month of March (nearly a quarter of the season), he managed 3 goals.

If we zoom out and look at a bigger picture, we that from Jan. 8th on, he scored 15 goals in 38 games, which on the surface looks good.

But then we dig a little deeper and we start to see some patterns. First, we that 10 of those goals came in 8 combined games, and the production came in clusters where he was "on." That means in the remaining 30 games where he wasn't "on" between Jan. 8th and March 31st, he scored 5 goals.

That trend only seemed to continue into the playoffs where his numbers were propped up by a few multiple point games, which balanced out more than few goose eggs in the remaining games. The following season he scored 1 goal in the entire month of October before scoring 7 in November.

Once again, the 7 looks pretty good on the surface until you start realize that 6 of those goals came in a 4 game hot streak, which also included a hat trick. Once again, in the remaining 8 games, he scored a grand total of 1 goal. December was a lot more of the same with half of his goal production coming in back-to-back games at the end of the month.

January of course featured zero goals. For the entire month. Half of his points also came in one game.

He missed all of February 2016, came back in March and scored 3 goals in his final 14 games. And par for the course, two of three goals came in a mini hot streak.

So for the 2015-2016 season, 8 of his 15 goals came in 6 combined games.

The pattern more or less continued into the 16-17 season, in which he'd had a 2 or 3 game stretch where he'd put up some goals and points, which would make his "overall" production seem at least okay. Heck 5 of his 23 goals on the season came in a stretch of 6 games at the end of March.

The of course takes us to this season, which is more of the same. The only two differences are that now it's more or less widely acknowledged that he is streaky as all hell, and his scoring clusters haven't been as long or as productive as they were in the past.

In summary:

For the second half of 14-15, he scored 5 goals in 30 games that weren't part of his surges.

In 15-16, he scored 7 goals in 52 non-surge games.

In 16-17, he scored 18 in 61 non-surge games.

So in a three year span, if he remove the games in which he looked he was playing video game hockey, he scored 30 goals in 142 other games. Or roughly a 15 goal in 71 game pace.

So in that sense, it really isn't a surprise to me that with increased age he's basically on a 17 goal pace, thanks in small part to shorter surges (such as nearly half of his goals coming in a three game spree from Nov. 11th to Nov. 15th).

I get your point but that's some SERIOUS cherrypicking. All players have hot streaks - you can't just eliminate them and say the player is only worth their "cold streak" points.

I happened upon an article on Carlos Tevez, who was paid $40M by a Chinese Super League team and scored four goals for them.

I immediately thought about Nash.

Whatever you think of Nash - a change of scenery will do him good and he still is respected in this league. And he is a UFA at the end of the season. So there is little downside in getting a 2nd round draft pick (and probably a sweetener also) by trading him to a true contender. He has been a great player who due to a combination of age and being snack bitten produces too little here these days. We need to rebuild so it's in everyone's interest to move on.

rick nash was dominant last night. he looked like the best player on the ice.

games like that will return us a 1st round pick when he's moved

problem is, we won't see nash for 2 weeks now. hell go invisible again and all the good will be washed away.
