Winter is Coming
He seemed to want to be here early on though, contually talked about wanting to be a career player and he was the one who wanted max term length. He was generally happy here for a while or so it seemed anyways. At some point he seemed to get a stick up his ass though.

I got 2 words or 1 name for ya... Adam oates.

55s attitude changes seemed to happen after he hooked up with oates and after him and Dara broke up. Could it be 55 was a virgin and Dara breaking up with him broke him? Women are the source of lots of guys problems

You realize Morrissey also works with Oates right?

Yeah, it's hard not to wonder what the hell happened and when. We can speculate all day about whether he wanted out and why but I'm 100% certain that he genuinely wanted to play his entire career as a Jet when he signed that deal.

Regarding the comments from Bowness more directly the only surprising part is that he said it so candidly.

Bedroom politics with other players partners maybe?

Yeah, I'm also willing to see how the season plays out. No need to jump ahead of ourselves at this point. 10 regular season games for now.

Yea I if things break well then great……If the team implodes there will be 5 months of cheerful time for the board to scrutinize. I am not in a rush to get there yet although I do understand why this topic has reared its head again.

Bowness seems like a ‘tell it like it is’ kind of guy.

Scheif could just be 'why risk getting hurt'
This is exactly where I am with regards to his play.

Sometime over the past two years there was a story that referenced this (in the Athletic?). Scheifele was quoted referencing advice from Oates as to how to approach the final years of his present contract.

Perhaps someone else read this and can verify?

Some of you are so sure of your own bullshit you make up regarding players you refuse to accept alternatives. Whatever.

lol what.
this is publicly available and verifiable stuff...

scheifele has been apparently working with him since 2015. his game in 2016-2018 was his peak and when he was id say arguably a top-10 C in the nhl.

I don’t think we can blame bones . This happened to Maurice too.

I don’t know if any coach could motivate the players that are Holding this team back .

It’s been a country club here and you don’t get benched , you play in the line up according to your salary , you don’t get called out and your not allowed to hit during training camp or practice.

Somethings rotten here in Winnipeg and it isnt a burger at the Marlboro hotel .

Let’s get a playoff round in and hopefully major changes this off-season and going forward

This team would have to do a 180 to be a playoff team. I don't mean to make the playoffs, I mean to play playoff hockey. Hard nosed, physical all out effort. They are one of the softest teams in the league as of now.

I'd love to see the 180.

I guess I could have just gone down a post and I wouldn’t need to have responded.

A Virgin!? Bahaha I've now heard from 3 women in Winnipeg that scheif is messaging their friends on snapchat. The innocent boy thing is an act, all pro athletes are narcissists.

Please Understand

The former opiner of Rick Bowness' hockey club see some stark comparisons between the Stars and Jets. We know that Bowness was hired on vibes and connection to the city before any other qualifications were discussed. Now we are here. Cheveldayoff needs to wear this crown of thorns.

I think this might be some of the problem Winnipeg will have as a market. That people talk and the circles are small.

If you are young man playing hockey in Vegas, Dallas, Tampa, Florida, Carolina nobody gives two shits what you do off the ice, as long as you don't get caught in the strip club hours before a playoff game.

One of the best stories I ever heard was about Doug Gilmour hating Winnipeg, because of the quality of our escorts, as he would find one on every road trip. But this was long before social media...As a hockey player I think Flames fans, Leafs fans, even Canadiens fans loved Doug Gilmour, what he did off the ice was of no consequence, as long as he played at a high level. Now Scheifele isn't playing at a high level since the Carolina game, I don't have any explanations.

But I do think the more fans and media delve into a person's personal life, the worse it gets for a market looking to attract young players. Because we all know hockey players aren't squeaky clean.

Bowness isn't without his faults as well. Examples of not playing Ehlers enough and properly, and playing Wheelers too much and not properly. and not being able to figure out a PP.

On Oats’ website he has a list of the NHL players he works with. This stuff isn’t rocket science.

Yup, JoMo works with him and he's a Norris candidate this year.

Oates may have helped Mark alter his game a bit but ultimately things like effort and attention to detail in the dzone are on the player.

I realize that there’s more ailing the Jets than Bowness. However, I recall that when he was hired (not first choice according to many), several Dallas fans came over here to “warn” us as to what the Jets were getting in Bowness.

Although what promised to be a very good season before Xmas has slipped away, I’ll be cheering for them until the (bitter) end.

went to the dallas forum to see what they were saying and the first thing I read was "Rick Bowness, in his usual fashion, is doing nothing but blaming the players just like he did when his time was winding down here"
