Happy. Rangers finally made a cup contenders move, a move that a team like the old school Detroit club would make in getting a steady jack for a unreliable hope.

This. Relative player for player value aside, Klein fixed several problems at once and for you Johnny Moore fans - a late x-mas gift. I predict that Moores game will progressively get better under Klein's tutelage who seems open to the role. They'd did a charity event together the other day, having that day to day mentor is huge. I don't think Del Zotto would have been as mentor ready, my gut feeling.

I'm not at all happy with Klein in the sense that I feel the organisation views him as a top-4 D-man which might lead them to make stupid decisions.

As for his play it has barely been passable. He and Moore have been getting very sheltered minutes and have been killed possession wise anyway, but they haven't been bleeding a lot of goals against - which counts for something. Though I fear that will correct itself soon. However, it has been less than 10 games so it is a bit too soon to say anything but the indicators are alarming.

That is a lot of what if's. Lets hope your what if's don't happen

Klein is dependable and ye olde reliable which is great.

The jury is still out on Del Z. Even if Nashville doesn't sign him because he hasn't really done anything for them, he could go to another team next season and be a 50 point player, or he could be in the KHL in two years. Gotta give him until he's 25ish.

Just me perhaps, but the D looks more solid since this trade. Moore has looked better too. So far so good.

i wish we went for a young fwd... but all in all trade was worth it.. we like the flashy trades, but we got a solid fundamentally sound dman that right now is giving us more then we wouldve gotten out of MDZ.. you look at the present not the future, so solid trade all around..

The Klein trade lost me what little hope I had with this team's front office.

I completely understand. Del Zotto didn't live up to the potential as a 1st rounder and with Klein we got a solid D-man for the present, instead of the future. This is a trade made by a Cup contending team.

Klein has done a nice job stabilizing John Moore, the 3rd pair has picked up a few more minutes which means Danny G and McD don't have to play 27-28 minutes a game

I didn't think this was a good move for the Rangers at first. I felt that if they're going to trade Del Zotto that they should get an offensive dman in return. After seeing the players perform on their respective teams I think the Rangers got a good player who added a defensive necessity and some sense of balance to the blue line. I still think the Predators are more likely to win this trade in the long term if they re-sign Del Zotto, but for now the deal seems to be favoring the Rangers.

Similar to team Canada philosophy, all around defensive integrity from #1 to #6 over high risk, reward bottom pairing. As a player, DZ is certainly worth more but seeing as how our bottom pairing is now fixed and there's now room for John Moore to improve, it's a good deal. Its not as if DZ was playing well anyway.

Ya see, I'm not sure that he is. MDZ has times when he's been a solid defensemen, but let's be realistic. He's adequate at best defensively - he has times where he looks strong, and others where he looks like he's running around like a chicken with his head cut off. He's considered a PMD, but he isn't effective on the PP. I honestly think that getting a guy like Klein whose locked up at a good number is a very good trade. I really don't know that I'd say MDZ is worth more. What is his realistic upside at this point? If i'm a playoff team, then give me Klein 10/10 times if I'm trying to make a playoff run.

THAT is the move that made you lose confidence. A barely passable kid who has shown no signs of improvement for a solid defensive defenseman locked up to a good deal?

I know that MDZ fans don't want to hear this, but he showed nothing but regression this year. He was a liability every time on the ice. The only possible complaint you could make is that they should have seen it coming, and moved him before the season.

Yeah, of all the head scratchers this one is not close to the top. lol

Klein got moved up to play with Staal. I think Klein would be more suited with McDonagh and Staal with Girardi.

He played well though, aside from that goal

I'm far from a MDZ fan, in fact, I was encouraging for a trade all the way. But Kevin Klein?!?! The same Kevin Klein who's been dragging the play of his linemates in Nashville!? I'm all for acquiring an old, gritty dman, but they have to be at least good.

I'm pretty sure 26-34 is the prime age of most hockey players...

so, 29 is OLD?

I wish Del Zotto's value hadn't been ruined and we could have gotten more than just Klein for him. That said, I like Klein a lot. I just think it's not the best return for a 23 year old that was drafted with a first round pick. But then again, I thought using that pick on Del Zotto was a mistake to begin with.

Two questions:

1) Who would we have taken, if not for DZ, do you remember, I don't..?

2) How has MDZ been doing with Nashville, has anyone been keeping up with him?

Thanks!

Fans in Nashville would disagree with you

Huh, he's 29, that's not old. Also, dragging the play of his linemates, he's beloved in Nashville. he's also been very good for us thus far, stabilizing our D-Core.

brahh dont you knowwwwooww???11/1/1!!? 24 is the new prime! 30 is soooooo damn old!!

He played well though, aside from that goal

that would mean AV is comfortable moving Stralman down with Moore, and if we do that, then Stralman HAS to remain here... I don't see us bringing another defenseman that can stabilize the 3rd pairing, so you might as well keep what is already comfortable here
