Similar to team Canada philosophy, all around defensive integrity from #1 to #6 over high risk, reward bottom pairing. As a player, DZ is certainly worth more but seeing as how our bottom pairing is now fixed and there's now room for John Moore to improve, it's a good deal. Its not as if DZ was playing well anyway.

The consensus at HFNSH was a positive one. He's been dependable for them and moving the puck well. As I understand it, DZ isn't on their power play.

Klein is pretty average.

But MDZ was terrible. Do wish we got better value in that trade, but it is what it is.

I thought this trade was an absolute steal...

This guy has NO defensive liabilities, which is *EXACTLY* what DZ was. Yeah, fancy moves, great finesse skater, but dumb as a rock and has *NO* shot from the blue line.

DZ's entire game is revolved around chance; simplistically meaning, he skates up the rink with the puck, goes deep enough to get a LOUSY shot or it ricochets off the plexiglass and what do you know, DZ is caught in the transition with an odd man rush against him.

I had high hopes for him, but he sucks.

Nashville fans seem quite happy with him. His outlet pass was something they were sorely missing. I haven't seen him with Nashville yet, but he hasn't been getting any special teams minutes as far as I've seen from the box scores. He's essentially playing second pair no special teams. Regardless, it will take time. When a player has an off year, it's generally only cured by an offseason.

I've liked what I've seen from Klein--I'm curious as to whether he can keep it up if he gets more minutes. I'd like to see him get some minutes against the other team's top lines to see how he can handle it. He really does remind me a lot of Sauer. Very simple game, but very effective as well.

I think Sauer was a bit more physical, but Klein is great on the 3rd pair considering he played a ton of minutes in Nashville even with Weber eating up like 27 mins a game or w/e it was.

I still think MDZ will end up as a top 10, maybe even top 5 defenseman in the league in some years. He just needs to simplify things and build from there.

That being said, im pleased with Klein. Love the fact that he'll drop the gloves if needed, too. Im thankfull that Johnny Moore doesnt have to be that guy anymore :p:

As far as the trade goes, i understand why it got done, as Klein is a better choice the next 2-3 years in a playoff push

MDZ-Moore was a ticking time bomb every game. KK has stabilized Moor and is one of the better defensive dmen in the league with a great contract. Ideally I would like to see an Allen-Klein 3rd pair next year with every thing else staying the same.

MDZ wasn't even a top 5 dman on the rangers. I highly doubt he becomes anything special

I have no regrets other than I think they should have moved him sooner when I think he had more value. MDZ just never thought the game well enough to become the player we all wanted him to. He never had a big shot, or skated like the wind, he had the passing ability from time to time and that is really about it.

I'd do the trade all over again today. It's worked out well as far as I'm concerned. It's evened out the right/left conundrum. Moore hasn't been nearly the train wreck that both he and DZ were when they were paired together. Now we have a dependable 3rd pair. We're not stuck with giving DZ a huge raise next year that he wasn't deserving either. This is just a win for us IMO. I do hope that DZ gets his game back together in Nashville though. He could still become a very good player and seems like a good guy.

Predators fan chiming in for those of you who don't visit the Preds board. When Del Zotto got here Trotz sat him down and said he'll have to earn special teams time and MDZ showed some real maturity in accepting that challenge instead of moaning about it like he could have. That's why he isn't getting any PP time, not because he hasn't been good. We've been really missing that pass of his.

Having said that this is definitely a move for the future for us. Klein is the better defender right now, but MDZ is still young and has room to grow, especially with how we develop our defense, Phil Housley will do wonders for him. Not to mention this gives Seth Jones a left handed defenseman that will grow better with him as he gets the hang of the NHL.

Honestly, I don't even notice him out there, in a good way.

Furtively stabilized the defense.

No complaints about Klein. You can't complain because he doesn't give you a reason to. Just a solid as they come defensive defenseman.

On DZ... I think the learning curve with him is a long one.

DZ was allowed to run around his 1st year and produced offense. He was great his rookie season until the minutes caught up to him and his play suffered.

Second year was a disaster after he was given defensive roles and assignments. Struggled playing mistake free minutes.

3rd and 4th he was solid.. and I think that is where his career average will be. A top 4 defenseman that pops in 30-40 points a year and plays 23 a night against 2nd line competition in a tight checking system.

Definitely sold low, and did so after mismanaging the entire season. Rangers should have sold quietly instead of AV yo-yoing him around publicly. He had plenty of trade value until he was put under the magnifying scope.

Given all the circumstances, I have nothing against the trade because it stabilized the Rangers defense, making for a better team this year and adds flexibility going forward.

Yeah, no. His first few strides are horrific.

Happy. Rangers finally made a cup contenders move, a move that a team like the old school Detroit club would make in getting a steady jack for a unreliable hope.
