At this point in time I am very okay with that trade. MDZ ruined all his trade value. Klein played some big minutes at a key point in the game last night and was doing really well.

I really didn't turn on MDZ until this season. I know a lot of people wanted him gone when he still had value, and in hindsight they were right. I was not one of them.

Where do you stand?

Didn't vote, as the poll is too ambiguous. I'm happy with Klein's play, but I also wish we still had MDZ. You never trade when the value is low on a 23 year old PMD.

I like safe defenseman who play solid defense, so, I like Klein.

Would love to upgrade Moore with a true offensive threat, but thats nitpicking.

I like to give a player 10 games to get an idea of what they can do. I know this is just short of that mark but out of the 8 games he played all 8 of them i have liked what i saw. He is sturdy. He also clears people out in front of the net like its a video game. I think a lot of people over look that. So many times people get away with just hanging out in front of Hank or Cam. Kline makes them suffer for it and most give up.

I don't know how its too ambiguous.

Are you happy with the trade?
Are you not happy with the trade?
Do you wish we never made a trade? Clearly your answer is you wish we never made a trade.

a PMD who didnt make plays

You hate him. I don't. We both have numbers and arguments that we can use to make ourselves look right and the other look wrong. We've been there. We've done those threads. Let's not do it again, eh?

As I said, I wish there were an option where we could vote that we were happy with Klein's play but wish we still had MDZ. I wouldn't have made the trade, but that doesn't mean I'm going to hold that against Klein, who has played very well since coming over.

I dont hate MDZ, thats ridiculous.

I do think its disingenuous to try labeling him as someone the Rangers gave up on when he had every chance to succeed here and then some.

Like I said, hes a PMD that doesn't make many plays. An incomplete player.

Im happy the Rangers got the safe option who is comfortable in his role in return.

MDZ was a liability, not an asset. Would have liked to have gotten a prospect as well in the trade, but not unhappy with Kline - nice to have a Jewish defenseman around (LOL).

well we did have Mathieu Schneider who was also a jew but a solid small dman that Sather should have kept instead of signing Malakhov

I think MDZ is the kind of player whose best years will be when his physical abilities start to decline and he simplifies his game.

So for the next few years, Klein will be the more useful of the two.

I like the trade.

I said it at the time and still say it - it's about the best we could've done for MDZ at this point. Klein's a dependable right D that will let our more mobile left D take a few more chances. MDZ hasn't done all that much in Nashville, either, so you have to wonder when he's really going to start "getting it". There have been flashes, but nothing to indicate he'll ever be a first pairing PMD. Hope it works out for him and as he matures that his game will, too. Some D don't excel until their late 20's.

And I think it's disingenuous to try labeling him as a fully-developed player at the age of 23. Then your next post is where you point out that he's been here for 5 seasons, so you don't want to hear about how he's only 23. Then I point out that most of the best PMDs in the league hadn't accomplished as much as MDZ had by that age. Then you make some sort of comment about how he **** the bed this year. Then I make a point about how he was never put into position to succeed by AV.

Again. It's an old script. We know how it plays out. If you really want the long-form version of it, there are more than a few threads where you can find it.

As to why I assume that you hate him--you responded one minute after my post. One. Minute. All I said was that I was happy with Klein's play, but that I wish we hadn't given up on a young player. You felt compelled to "prove me wrong" with a snarky comment. Nonsense like that is why I rarely post here anymore. As I said, we view the player differently. We aren't ever going to change the other's mind. The difference is that you, for some odd reason, keep on trying. To me, that signifies irrational hate, a love of banging one's head against the wall, or WAY more free time than one knows what to do with. I went with the option that reflected most positively on you. :)

It could just be me but ever since Klein showed up, Moore hasn't been giving me a stroke every time he's on ice haha.

I wish we drafted Fowler and sold off on MDZ when people were really high on him. But hindsight......

I'm happy with Klein - he's been solid.

Its not just you.

Once the wonderment of his flawless skating wore off, it become kind of apparent that Moore isn't a very smart defenseman.

Well DZ has 1 point, an assist, in 9 games since the trade. I've only watched one of their games since, so I don't know what kind of minutes he's getting or how he looks but he's an even +/-. If he's getting PP time with Weber or Jones, one assist is probably disappointing.

I like MDZ, but Klein has provided such a steadying presence.

More often than not he makes the right decisions and plays.

Has provided a good level of snarl as well.

The one game i watch he barely played and had two turn overs on the same shift. Call it schadenfreude if you must but seeing him in yellow instead of blue made me smile.

Yea I am good with Klein, he's a reliable vet and it balances the D.

DZ has continued to do nothing. It was a good move for the future too if say Stralman is gone as a UFA. Still thinking Girardi stays

I wish Del Zotto's value hadn't been ruined and we could have gotten more than just Klein for him. That said, I like Klein a lot. I just think it's not the best return for a 23 year old that was drafted with a first round pick. But then again, I thought using that pick on Del Zotto was a mistake to begin with.

Nashville fans seem quite happy with him. His outlet pass was something they were sorely missing. I haven't seen him with Nashville yet, but he hasn't been getting any special teams minutes as far as I've seen from the box scores. He's essentially playing second pair no special teams. Regardless, it will take time. When a player has an off year, it's generally only cured by an offseason.

I've liked what I've seen from Klein--I'm curious as to whether he can keep it up if he gets more minutes. I'd like to see him get some minutes against the other team's top lines to see how he can handle it. He really does remind me a lot of Sauer. Very simple game, but very effective as well.
