It is just coming out that he will have to be protected. I would attach a couple articles, but I am on my cell. Google it.

not worried about Shatty unsigned. Think if the Rangers and Blues agree to a deal of Nash/Klein for Shatty/Berglund, re-signing Shattenkirk would not be an issue.
if that is a deal that both sides are OK with, I would do that.
Both sides feel a bit of pain, and both sides address weaknesses.
He does? I thought his NMC is now a NTC in his final two years and won't have to be protected. I could be wrong. Not sure.
With the way Nash has been playing and the Blues doing well (but could be doing better) in goal scoring, what about:
Extended Shattenkirk for Nash and Klein
Nash and Klein get it done in a rental aspect. Shattenkirk has been Blues best D-man this year, If he agrees to the Sign and trade it will cost the rangers more.
NHL players almost never agree to Sign and Trade, pick a good example from recent history if you disagree. Many have agreed to Trade and Sign though.
There is zero reason for Shattenkirk to participate in a sign and trade deal.
No thanks from the Blues.S+N at full pop each is too much to juggle
we do not want Shatty extended.
Forget juggling numbers on current cap hit
expansion - must protect McD, and NMC'ed Staal, Girardi at this point.
we pay less for rental and take risk on Shattenkirk to sign after the expansion draft
only scenario that works.

since it is only a 2 year deal, we can do the 2 of Nash reduced by a full 3m for an expiring Shattenkirk IF you guys can throw us draft or acceptable prospect(s). Maybe something like two of our 5ths for two of your 3s?
If pivot is a concern, we can do a separate backscratcher, dealing you Lindberg, who can handle 3C, for a reasonable return.
