Nash and Klein get it done in a rental aspect. Shattenkirk has been Blues best D-man this year, If he agrees to the Sign and trade it will cost the rangers more.

Like others have mentioned, salary would be a key issue

would St. Louis have anyone they'd like to unload salary wise?

NHL players almost never agree to Sign and Trade, pick a good example from recent history if you disagree. Many have agreed to Trade and Sign though.

There is zero reason for Shattenkirk to participate in a sign and trade deal.

What if we pay some of Nash's contract or take the cheaper of Lehtera and Berglund?
The Blues have less than a $1M in cap space. You're having them take on almost $6.5 million this year. You would have to do both, and adding a forward to the deal just undercuts whatever questionable upgrade the Blues are getting to their offense while simultaneously weakening the Blues down the middle.

Pass.

Still the same problem, with the additional complication that the Blues get absolutely hammered by the cap next year thanks to tying up almost $11 million in two guys they don't need.

Pro-rated at the deadline, you'd get away with it. If it were made today, you're a tad over the cap.

As for next year, what does it matter? Everyone is signed.

We wouldn't want either one for next season, especially Klein. We have a couple extensions to give and already have some raises.

The Blues thankfully made the right call to pass on this earlier. That hasn't changed.

MPS is in the AHL and isn't currently counting against the Blues cap.

Next year this move would leave us with ~$2.2 million in cap space with 19 players signed and Parayko needing a new contract.

That's not going to work, even if Parayko takes a bridge.

Still haven't addressed the problem of the Blues trading away their #3 center when they don't have an internal replacement available. Expanding the deal to include Klein and Berglund/Lehtera just makes it that much worse for the Blues.

If you want a Nash for Shattenkirk base, start by keeping those as the only two players involved and eating enough cap on Nash ($3.5M or more) to make the deal financially palatable for the Blues.

Considering that the Rangers made almost that exact offer already at the beginning of the season and the Blues declined it, it's probably still not enough.

Missed Parayko.

No, he has not been our best D.

Welcome to the stat-watching world of hfboards. Shattenkirk has had a couple of great games this year, but other than those blips, he's been pretty damn bad. Absolutely pitiful the last couple of games, especially. He's racking up points on a powerplay that probably doesn't even need him, yippieeee. He doesn't come close to Pietrangelo or Parayko in overall ability, and literally every other Blues' defender has been more consistent in their role than Shattenkirk has been.

He's been brutal defensively the past 1.5 years.

He does? I thought his NMC is now a NTC in his final two years and won't have to be protected. I could be wrong. Not sure.

It is just coming out that he will have to be protected. I would attach a couple articles, but I am on my cell. Google it.

not worried about Shatty unsigned. Think if the Rangers and Blues agree to a deal of Nash/Klein for Shatty/Berglund, re-signing Shattenkirk would not be an issue.

if that is a deal that both sides are OK with, I would do that.

Both sides feel a bit of pain, and both sides address weaknesses.
