OT: Reviews of the 'tailgate party' down at Maple Leaf Square

And there were no other Leaf jerseys? MacLarens, Louis and RealSports were all packed with Leafs fans on Saturday, not sure about other bars in downtown Ottawa but it was all Toronto fans pouring into the streets after the game.

Not much, no. That said, I didn't see any Sens gear either. I did run into some Leaf fans on my way home though.

So I think I'm done with the viewing parties. I know it's the minority but I just can't stand drunken sport fans.

Today I saw a crowd actively cheer at a sign someone brought that said #TorontoStronger - obviously taking a shot at the tragedy in Boston and flipping to to be about SPORTS. Loud booing of the American anthem. I saw a Leaf fan get heckled because he was sitting during an intermission. He was called a Pejorative Slur, a fa*got, among other things by a group of other "Leaf fans." Later a female reporter went to interview him and they started screaming at him even more causing the CBC reporter to turn around and ask them to please be quiet in which they responded with - "why the **** are you interviewing the fa*got that's sitting down, you C*NT!" Yup, they called the reporter that.

During the course of the evening, no girl was safe as they were subjected to hootings and hollerings along with an instance of, "Hey blonde *****! Nice ass! I got a **** that would fit nicely in it! Oh you don't like me? My friend here will take care of you then you, s*ut!" The worst, WORST thing about this is that these groups of "fans" have girls in their group as well who are perfectly fine with their treatment of women at the event.

Terrible. Ugh.

Yeah I'm done with them too. Just hate being surrounded by drunk fans and having cigarette smoke puffed in my face from every angle. Had the biggest headache ever

I must have been at a different location than most of you; heck, I spent half the game with a Bruins fan.

Granted, I don't think any of these cowards would start **** with either of us.

With that said; the people around me were pretty respectful. I guess I got lucky?

That ass hat with the "Toronto Stronger" sign is lucky he was not near me. What an absolute idiot. I hope he didn't understand the origin of the term; let's not forget how heavy the bandwagon can get.

They're going to have to watch it - if things get worse, you may have things get out of hand real quickly.

Maybe I'm just a worry wart since I did have to deal with the 2011 riot out here, where things were great until Game 7.

Boston won't dare do an event like this due to the issues they'd have to deal with with a huge public event such as this.

I thought it was good, I got there pretty late but ended up standing to the left of the big Molson Canadian sign and security gave up on trying to move people so I had a good view. Heard some swearing (and some morons booing the anthem) but it was pretty calm down there.

And I ended up on one of those Hockey Tonight fan promo things, so overall it was solid. When they opened up that middle space though people were jumping over it like there was a war going on behind them or something, and then they all ended up caged it. Was pretty hilarious.

Here's the idiot. He even made the ****ing ribbon.

I had to snap a photo because I wanted to share on Facebook how disgusted I was.

Heck, they can't deal with the actions in the arena itself. Let's not forget that cowardly punch from behind on a Leafs fan.

The idiot actually posed for you...he probably thought you thought he was so funny and cool with his inappropriate and uncreative play on words.

I'm contemplating throwing it on reddit, just 'cause.

Give your head a shake. The sign was made in the context of a hockey game. The whole _____ strong nonsense is nothing but stupid bravado anyways that does nothing but alienate certain people with it's clickish undertone. It makes more sense making something like that for a sports event than a bombing? anyways. The sign was made to pump up Leafs fans and to repost the guys image because you are butthurt by it is ridiculous, grow up.

Chill out. I'm not actually going to.

And the sign is not in good taste no matter what way you try to slice it. If he made just the slogan, you could maybe get away with that argument but the fact he even took the ribbon and changed it up is a pretty direct message at what he's playing off of.

Playoffs attract the fairweather fans, and unfortunately a LOT of our fairweather fans are ****ing idiots who know very little about hockey yet act like they know more than anyone, all while using it as an excuse to get drunk and act tough. The same guys who know jack **** about the team yet act superior.

I was at the game and didn't see much in terms of this, but obviously just stupid drunk guys walking around acting like they're the ****, talking smack to every Bruins fan that walked by etc.

This is the reason I'll be avoiding the square at all costs. It seems like a breeding ground for idiots. Walking through to get to the ACC before tonight's game was enough for me.

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if a lot of these hooligans are coming from outside the GTA, like during the G-20. I wouldnt be surprised if it was drawing a lot of Leafs fans from all across Ontario. For example, there were a bunch of ppl in cowboy hats which is an odd site in Toronto.

Really surprised with the anthem booing (don't think anyone's ever done this before) and hick behaviour swearing towards girls. Just sounds like ppl not use to the city environment.

Vancouver thought all the rioters were coming in from the Suburbs...

which was and was not true.

A large portion (not the majority) of people arrested and charged were from Vancouver proper.

Its the same thing during euro/world cup time. You get a bunch of people who only watch the sport once every 2 years give you their expert analysis and try to cause fights with opposing fans. Drunken idiots and girl fairweather fans are the most annoying.

Question:

I go to school in Buffalo, and a few of my buds (two are diehard leafs fan) were thinking of making the trip to watch the game at the tailgate party. Is it frowned upon for a Bruins fan to attend this, since i figure theres more diehards and booze outside than probably in the rink. Im not gonna wear a jersey or anything, and im not some obnoxious ******* whose going to talk trash (although i will have a smile and quietly support my team at big moments).

I'm a Bruins fan but i'm a hockey fan first, and an atmosphere like this is something i wont find in the US and really want to take in at least once in my lifetime.

EDIT: So I just read a few posts i missed and it seems maybe it isnt diehards but more bandwagon fans getting hammered? Maybe its not worth my time?

The cowboy hats were promo giveaway items, so that's a wash.

That said, I'm not sure if these are out of towners so much as they are people just looking for an excuse to get drunk moreso than watch hockey

Over-dramatizing for publicity's sake is unfortunately becoming the norm, especially in the realm of social networking where one's personal beliefs, whether they be fictitious or genuine, are often in accordance with the current media trend.

In the words of Holden Caulfield himself, "Phonies".

I went to a bar/restaurant for the game and I regret it. I watched the game from start to finish and focused my attention completely on the game but I can still hardly remember anything from it. The sound was on but I couldn't hear it very well, which takes away from the intensity of the viewing experience. Cheering out loud with a whole room of people is cool but I think I'll be watching at home from now on.
