Speculation: Retool in LA

Could send them Backes! Get that average age up over 30.

Then watch them win a cup next year and screw up the entire leagues thinking about having a bunch of 20 year olds running around.

In all seriousness though, I kind of thought LA and Boston would’ve made good partners this offseason. Toffoli wasn’t a guy I was thinking of but he’d fit the bill for what they need
Just not sure what Boston would be willing to part with that would interest LA

I would think Boston has exactly what LA would be looking for. I'm under the assumption LA wants to retool and create some cap space. Boston has an abundance of young players who are just about ready or already contributing but will improve. But I guess it depends on what your scouts think of guys like Heinen, Bjork, Zboril, Lauzon, Grzelcyk, Cehlarik, Forsbacka Karlsson and Frederic.

And there's probably only 3-4 guys on that list I'd even consider giving up for Carter, because there's a very, very good chance Carter will have negative value in 2 years.

Muzzin and Pearson for Nylander and Zaitsev, probably some pieces (prospects/picks) added to both sides

Muzzin would be a great stabilizing force for Leafs and good contract
Pearson paid a bit much but would add the secondary scoring leafs need

I see Zaitsev (his contract) as a negative so Leafs may not look the same, without him in the deal LA retains a bit on Pearson

I do not know if this is enough from the Leafs POV because as a King's fan I do it immediately

yeah that's not usually a good sign :)
i do think it comes down to how they view Zaitsev's contract, 7 years at 4.5 is something i'd value getting out of
I also like the fit for Muzzin and Pearson, two ontario guys, one addresses need on D and the other adds some size and scoring up front, can play in top 9

In hindsight Doughty's comments about wanting to win more than anything are ironic now if the Kings do go into a several year retool.

Leafs will take Muzzin, What do you want?

Based on the 1000 times this has been brought up they'll ask for Nylander. It won't happen. A significant add would have to happen for the Leafs to move Nylander for a D a decade older than him. On top of that I think we could get a better D in that age range for him as well. Not that I would ever consider that type of deal in the first place.

Toffoli + Muzzin?

Two firsts, one second, and a really, really good prospect.

When has a goalie ever returned this type of price? I know Quick's resume but that's a very generous appraisal. No team would pay that, so are you willing to budge or just not interested in moving him?

a 1st rd pick and a prospect i'd assume

**wheelchair not included

Figured this was his value, I could work with that, forward or defense prospect?

I am guessing the Panthers would need LA to take back Reimer as well. Which is gross

Prospect i would want to be included is Borgstrom

Ya Reimer would possibly be included but we could retain a bit to make it more palatable.

As for Borgstrom, that's a no from FLA. Tippett or Heponiemi would go before Borgstrom.

Toffoli + Muzzin?

The issue is need. Leafs do not need a LD. They really don't. They need someone in the top pair RD but otherwise the defense really isn't that bad here. Toffoli doesn't do anything here. All this trade would do is downgrade to Toffoli for the benefit of healthy scratching a good young top 4 D in Dermott to play Muzzin.

I am not sure I see a fit with the kings if I am honest, but I am only one fan and not the GM. However based on management the past several years, and how Dubas has said "trust the process" more times than anyone can count, you can be assured it is more likely that Nylander moves for futures at this point than it is he moves for D 30 year old D.

Zero chance the Leafs consider this.
Muzzin is a nice piece but he's a LHD and the Leafs don't have a DD to pair with him. He hasn't been nearly as impressive without him.
Pearson isn't a need at all.

What would LA offer for Ristolainen?

In essence, this is the type of player LA should be looking for but Im not sure LA has what Buffalo wants/needs that they are willing to move.

I assume Risto comes with a big asking price and that essentially puts the Kings out of the market since he's not likely attainable with their limited assets, nor do I believe they should move their first this year.

It could totally be a quick turnaround. Or the Kings could go the way of many others - managed bubbledom then protracted collapse and 3-5 years of being very bad.
I think this is more probable, however the "being very bad" part may be less than 3 yrs., since you have the 3 main pieces 1c,1D, 1G all still in their prime.
In a way LA is in a conundrum because of this, moreso than the Wings 3-5 yrs ago.
DRW rebuild/retool on the fly started 3 seasons ago, even though the writing was on the wall 5 yrs ago after WCSF loss to Hawks in OT, game 7.
Luc & Rob probably don't wanna do a full rebuild, I don't blame them, I wouldn't want to either. But with Quick's season gone, they may wanna trade aging Carter, Phaneuf, Martinez & bottom 6F's + bottom 3D. That seems the only viable solution to a retool & "quick" turnaround, no pun intended.
