If you can take his 11M and use it elsewhere, you absolutely can. We can make a play for Danault to temporary play 2c til JT is back + another player or 2
Crazy talk.
Ridiculous.
No Way.
Be Better.
Try Harder.
And why would Danault leave the Habs.
They won 3 rounds.
We won 3 games.

Really?
Wow.
Be serious.
This aint the NBA with p***y Lebraun and “ Load Mgt “
Hockey is a sport played by real men.
Except for a Wonder Boy led team.
I honestly don’t think you understood my post and I honestly have zero interest attempting to explain it to you. Stay ignorant king

lol Tavares is a beast and trains like Crosby. He doesn't need rest. Nothing he can really do about a thumb injury and then getting kneed in the face the season after.

Tavares would request a trade if they suggested load management to him. He's a warrior. I would line him up for conn smythe if he got to play with playoff Bill this year.

That's the first good reason I've seen for doing it!

People suggesting to sit Tavares or even trade Tavares is pretty ridiculous. He’s always hovered around being a PPG player and is one of the best second line centres. The guy brings great leadership and gives it his all out on the ice every shift. Is he a little overpaid? Sure but I’ll stand behind our captain anytime. If there’s a real contract that’s an anchor it’s Marners.

Hell put all 4 of them on LTIR, use the whole $40M to pick up 5 $8M players and then bring the core back as 3rd liners for the PO's

Your close but why sit them all year , we could sit 9 or 10 at a time , 6 forwards and 3 or 4 D men on a constant rotation of LTIR , Conditioning with the Marlies then a couple of weeks with the big club before the re-occurring concussion symptoms come back and they are back on LTIR , this keeps everyone rested but sharp . Come playoff roster time we roll the top 12 players in the league at forward and the top 6 or 7 Dmen , hello NY Yankees eat our dust .

I was basically just joking with my last post, but a variation of what you have suggested did cross my mind. I hadn't gone as far as 9 or 10 at a time though.

Hey go big or go home , in the past we carried over 100million in salary in a 80 million cap league without going all in like this .I too am just joking but ..............................................lol!

JT has his contract and $$$ already sealed .. and he only wants a Cup now .. regular season means nothing to him .. Tampa could not bring back Kuch in late March/April when he was skating with team because they had no room to fit him in .. da league did nothing because there was nothing they could do about it .. Tampa was not allowed to play him end of story .. in Leafs case I am sure we could be 10% over CAP in summer and then LTIR JT in October .. then when he is ready to come back in January we can't do it much like Tampa .. it would be exact same thing .. this is not illegal and everyone knew what occurred in Tampa

Every player does baseline testing. That’s what the players do in the “quiet room” before they can come back to play.

It actually would be theoretically possible to fake your way into missing significant time, but that would take both Tavares and Dubas telling a lot of lies, and neither guy seems like the kind to go along with that.

Towes just sat out a season on LTIR because of a condition that no league-approved doctor would recognize as legitimate, "just not feeling right" after a concussion has more validity especially when stories like Franzen's are still a hot topic.

Not that this would ever actually happen but the issue wouldn't be that Tavares has to lie, nobody's at 100% in the league and guys have sat long-term for less. Hell, Drouin is sitting because of Habs fan induced stress, there's no way you're going to tell me being careful about PCS is less legitimate.

If he could play, he would have to lie and say he couldn’t….

Bergeron played through broken ribs and a punctured lung, he obviously could play, but if those things had happened to him in a regular season game you don't think he would have qualified for LTIR? Whether he can play and whether it's safe longterm to do so are two different things. If he takes a big hit in game 1 of the regular season that's a potential career ender, if he takes that same hit towards the end of the year the risk is lower.

Again I'm not actually saying he should sit for the year, but if they wanted to do that he has a stronger case than a bunch of guys who were on LTIR for large parts of last season. I don't see how Towes or Drouin would be legal but Tavares wouldn't.

Reactions: JT AM da real deal
It's a legitimate question... Could the leafs potentially pull a Kucherov with Tavares. Tampa did it last year and is almost guaranteed to pull cap shenanigans this coming year.

Montreal and Weber looks like it could be the same deal if he comes back for the playoffs next year.. if they make it.

That's potentially 2 other teams in the same division pulling this stunt. I think the fact it's happening is stupid and points to flaws in the CBA but until teams stop doing it or fix the loophole it's going to spark the question.

Concussion symptoms are very hard to monitor so good luck having the league tell a guy he doesn't have them.

It comes down to if Tavares would agree to it. The leafs spend his cap in UFA for a year and go for it like Tampa. I don't see it happening but it's not impossible.

Sitting out Tavares would also increase the risk of the Leafs not making the playoffs in what most expect to be a tough division.

It's a stupid idea.

Should the Leafs have Tavares take the season to "recover" from his injuries? They can likely still make the playoffs without him and then have him fresh for the playoffs. Plus use his money to bring in some players for a playoff run.

I know it's ridiculous but it's the offseason!

its funny to think that a kid whose dream to play in the NHL would want to sit out a year. He already missed time with the lockout and COVID years.

why would anyone do that? Especially after being lucky to come away from that injury and be able to play again.

You get no guarantees in life much less as a professional athlete.

My money is on him playing as long as he’s able and allowed.
