Resign Klingberg or not? How much?

I know that it's only a small sample size, but I'm curious how many people here would be willing to sign John Kilngberg, and for how much / how long.

This is all assuming that his play remains consistent.

I’d be happy to bring him back. I wanna see how he will look with a full training camp. In saying that though, Emberson would be an expensive #7D

*all healthy*

Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Kulak
Walman - Klingberg
Emberson

*chefs kiss*

Every pair looks to have chemistry

In a hypothetical situation where we go all the way - Klingberg is example A, B and C of deals that get signed for bigger $ based on the playoff performance that teams regret by about October 31.

If they want to re-sign him for anything more than about $2x1, they have to do a lot of diligence on his health and the conditions of his hips.

I feel like you probably have to go something like 3x3 if you actually want to sign him. If you’re only prepared to offer him a one year deal, then he’s better off just taking the biggest offer to make up for his agent fumbling the bag
Keep in mind the guy hasn't won a cup. He's probably also looking for stability and a place to call home. I'd give him 2.5M x 4 years. 4 years to grow with the team. It'll take him to 36 years. He can choose to sign another 2 years after that or retire.

His buddy Janmark is also signed for another 2 years.

What would your max offer be?

Not much more than 1x2-3M. Still a lot of question marks related to health and durability. Someone with less to lose in their immediate future would beat that offer easily and significantly.

This guy turned down a 50 million dollar contract to bet on himself and you think he's going to accept a lowball offer like that?

It's not a lowball offer. It's what he's worth now.

If we go deep and he continues like he has, I think he'll get 4 million from some team. He'd probably re sign here for 3-3.5

I guess it depends what he wants. If it’s money then some other team will offer him more. If he’s finally healthy he probably has 3-4 good years left in him.

Klingberg hasn't shown enough to get his big contract. However, the market is so thin and so many teams have cap space that I could see other teams offering him 3x3.

I think you could sell him on the idea of signing here on a 1 year x 3M deal to inflate his numbers after a full season. That's probably the highest the Oilers can go.

I said I would not sign him, but I thought Vegas was going to expose him. He got better in game one lol

It might be a mistake not to sign him, because this team is a lot slower than last year, yet is playing way faster. Walman and Kling are correlated to this uptick in speed for sure imo.

Because EDM is moving the puck faster. You can't skate faster than the puck. Players like Kingberg and Bouchard have been really making quick passes and stretching the passes up the ice. It's the best way to break a heavy forecheck.
