Resign Dvorak?

He had a nice enough ending here . . . but where was he the prior 3.5 years? Time to move on to other options.

This feels like an "everything else fell through" move. There's nothing Dvorak does (even with is play over the last couple of months) that Evans can't do in the same position. The idea should be to upgrade the 2C position and give a plausible path for one of Beck or Kapanen to earn a spot at C for Montreal. Dvorak is more of a status quo move, which was never the plan.

No interest at all. Had a couple of good months this season, but overall he's been below average with this team.

Are Beck and Kapanene ready to step into Dvo's shoes next year?

Is Newhook?

Can we find someone better on the open market?

We're trying to compete next year. If the answer is no to all those questions, Dvo should be signed for two years.

It depends. If we are not able to acquire a proper #2C, then we might have to take a depth-oriented approach next season, with two solid middle six centermen and Evans as #4. I fail to see how Dvorak is not among the possible options in that scenario.

Isn't that what I said? That its an "everything else fell through" move?

The idea is that you get an upgrade at 2C. Evans can play 3C (or 4C) just as well as Dvorak can, especially if he plays with Gallagher and Anderson. At that point you're just asking one of Beck and Kapanen to play the C position in the NHL. Maybe add a more gritty 4C option on an expiring deal as security.

Montreal may be trying to compete next year, but it doesn't mean the rebuild is over or that they shouldn't be trying to integrate prospects or give them an opportunity to earn a spot.
