I was thinking Spooner but you guys probably don’t want that much useless cap, anything else you’d want added to take that contract?

Nyquist + Howard for Spooner + Talbot + 2019 1st (top 10 protected) + 2020 2nd is interesting.

Wings want a 1st for both. Admittedly, Howard would be a long shot... They're not giving both away for one protected 1st.

Howard is in no way returning a 1st round pick. Nyquist may not return one either with how many quality forwards are on the market this year. The article also stated that they were unlikely to get a 1st round pick for either player.

Nyquist will ge traded for a low first + 2rd if they sell at the right team, and Howard for low first

uh, no he wont

he hasnt hit 50 pts in the last three seasons and barely got 20 goals last year

he can MAYBE fetch a late first, but he certainly isnt getting a 1st + 2nd from ANY team

not a snowballs chance in hell

I don't disagree that he won't fetch that, unless the 2nd is conditional on him signing an extension, but bringing up the last three years for a rental is kinda ridiculous considering he's already at 40 halfway through the season.

It's ridiculous because he's producing above his career averages right now and it's not unrealistic to expect he regresses back to the mean especially if he gets traded to a new team and system he's not familiar with?

Teams are going to view him as a 20 goal/ 50 pt wing and will pay for that accordingly. They won't pay a premium just because he's on pace for 68 pts about half way through the season

I'd say too bad, Kenny, but if Paul Gaustad returns a first, anybody can. It depends on team need and desperation. One of the top 5 teams will think they're "one piece away." McPhee will probably do it.

Oilers 1st(unprotected) + Puljujarvi + Talbot(cap and avoid the three headed monster) for Nyquist and Howard

Why would we make this deal? Just to get into the playoffs? Or do you think we end up re-signing 1 or 2 of these guys?

Yzerman can't take over soon enough if this front office thinks its smart business for a rebuilding team to turn down 2nd rd picks + for guys they could just as easily re-sign over the summer.

Nyquist - 1st Round Pick
Howard - 1st Round Pick
Duchene - 1st Round Pick
Stone - 1st Round Pick
Hayes - 1st Round Pick
Ferland - 1st Round Pick
Simmonds - 1st Round Pick
Zuccarello - 1st Round Pick

Lots of teams wanting 1st round picks for the players they're trying to sell, and not nearly as many 1sts actually available. A number of selling teams are gonna be quite disappointed in the returns they get.

Yep and that’s for rentals only. If guys like Schenn, Toffoli, Muzzin move there are even less first rounders to go around because managers will always want the players with term.

It's negotiation 101, your initial asking price is high. I doubt they'd actually turn down a 2nd+ for Howard.

A low 1st for a skilled winger on pace for 68 points is more than fair.

Because what contending team is really in need of a goaltender, especially at such a steep price.

Except its not a trade or walk situation. By all indications there is mutual interest in a Howard extension. If no one wants to pay the price for a quality starter on a rental contract the Wings will be happy to keep him.

Who exactly is going to trade for Howard at the TDL? Is Howard an upgrade to any of the teams making the playoffs?
Maybe no one? Bottom line is Detroit doesn't have to deal Howard, Holland plans on meeting with Howard's agent after the All Star Break to talk contact extension. But at the same time if he can get a decent return for him. He should be listening any GM starts their bidding high. And then goes accordingly.
