Trades are not always about the name, it’s about supply and demand. Fact is, there’s a lot of big names on the market right now and seemingly not as many buyers. So the prices will drop accordingly.

I’m not even sure how Howard could garner such a high asking price if there’s no demand. I mean seriously, how many contending playoff teams are even looking for a starting goaltender right now?

Yes, thats why people responded. Because you were stating something so obvious and then bragging about being employed. Dude, everyone here inlcuding Wings fans and Holland knows no one is going to offer a first unless Chia or Milbury gets a gm job.

The thread topic is the fact that there is a rumor the red wings want a first round pick. He states, in his opinion that they won't get it (maybe some people think they might get someone to bite, maybe a 2020 pick or something.). I don't think his statement is out of place (well maybe the unemployment thing was to much). Otherwise this may as well be a VALUE OF thread instead of a RUMOR thread.

He will not get a 1st.

Crowded market for the second tier of wingers, and the player has a no trade clause which will limit the market for him.

They'll get a 2nd and a lower end prospect. Maybe they can swing a 2nd that becomes a 1st if he re-signs.

I agree. If it was like page one or two. Whats the point in going into a thread on page 9 just to state something thats already been stated and with no elaboration?

I did elaborate, and you don't get to decide who can post what at each point in a thread.

What? You're the one still talking about it, not me. I'm just responding to the new post you made about it today.

You do realise I was simply responding to a reply to me, right? You're the one who actually jumped into this thread without really being mentioned.

Of course, but now I have a vested interest in this thread when I see it bumped. I came online to check out the NYI related threads in this forum, saw this thread that I remembered from yesterday and obviously was going to check it out. Obviously I was going to reply to a new post referencing me since I have self worth and pride.

If you don't care anymore, simply don't respond, like we had it yesterday. :thumbu:

Well you just said as much

I kinda get the impression with Howard specifically that the Wings honestly want to just keep him

like yeah if they can somehow find someone willing to part with a first for him they'll move him but they aren't gonna lower their asking price by much just to make a deal happen

Clearly we do have things your fans want since it's Wings fans trying to get our picks/prospects/young players. the cost being suggested. Don't get me wrong, we wouldn't mind Nyqvist or Kronwall, just not the cost being suggested.

Red Wings weighing whether to sign or trade as deadline looms

This is the wings most legit reporter. Hes saying theres rumours that the Flames are interested in Howard. Its fine that you might not want him but it seems like Calgary management might at least be exploring the option

I have my doubts. Flames are pretty tight lipped on things. Did they inquire? Probably, Treliving is one of the most proactive GMs in the NHL in that regard, he calls on basically everyone.

Is he so tight lipped that nobody in the Red Wings organization could ever know he has shown interest? If Detroit media is reporting it, wouldn't that mean the leak probably came from someone not tight-lipped in the DRWs organization?

That said, I doubt a trade comes to fruition since Wings aren't giving him up unless a 1st is coming back, and you made it clear a 1st wasn't on the table. So really... no trade here. I wouldn't read too much into it. Probably just your due-diligence tire kicking that you'd expect from GMs.

I suspect the Flames inquired but I can’t see them giving up anything of significance for Howard. I had thought they might try to get an upgrade on Smith as a backup/1b, but Smith has been ok lately, so I think that ship may have sailed.

If anything the Flames are likely looking for some depth at wing.

With the way he’s playing this year and the potential for him to stick around with his new team long term, Nyquist should be able to get a low first. Howard... no.

I think people are underrating how saturated the forwards market is. Duchene, Stone, Panarin, Skinner, Zuccarello, Hayes, Nyquist, Simmonds, Ferland, Silfverberg... etc all have their fans thinking they can land a first round pick if they are moved... and that's just UFA Forwards! This is no disrespect to Nyquist or anyone else on that list, but I can't see more than 4 or 5 guys getting first round picks and for everyone not named Stone, when they are moved will have more impact on the return than who they are because teams will run out of 1st rounders they are willing to move.

Some fans are a bit optimistic. Some guys won’t get moved. So Stone and Duchene each get 1sts. Skinner stays in Buffalo. Panarin goes back to Chicago for reasons I can’t understand. Now only 2 1st rounders have been used, but the pool has already gotten pretty shallow. There are going to be several teams hanging around with picks in the 25-31 range that want to improve.
