Treliving keeps missing on his targets. Now he's talking extending Marner because he won't waive and he doesn't want to lose him for nothing. Tavares won't waive. Not sure what the solution is there. Talk about a wasted rebuild.

lol Flames organization fired him. You gotta pay up.

Reports keep coming that the Leafs keep getting outbid - Leafs GM needs to start “losing a trade” to start getting the players they want or else it’s going to be status quo.

Why is this news? NJD will benefit with markstrom more than TOR, not surprised NJD’s offer was better.

The devils have terrible goaltending, and can significantly improve by acquiring even an “average” goalie.

It does not matter who is playing goalie for the leafs when the rest of the team sucks in the playoffs.

I am happy NJD got a good goalie. I am also happy that TOR hasn’t made a dumb offseason trade (so far).

I don't disagree with your post premise. Just would like to point out the Flames wanted to keep Treliving, but he didn't like the lack of autonomy and Edwards meddling so he decided not to stay. He wasn't fired.

Toronto doesn't have their 2025 1st. So Calgary passed on their 2024 1st hoping NJ will finish notably worse than that?
I think Calgary wanted a 2025 1st to balance out their picks.

This year its theirs and VAN
2026 they have Vegas 1st

With 2025 they have an unloading of Monahan contract and getting a 1st from FLA. Likely mon gets FLA 25 1st, CGY keeps theirs, and now adds NJ.
I think they preferred a 2-2-2 in 1st set up

Except it says they were comparable, not NJ had a better offer.
2025 1st from NJ also carried protections and it could be worse in position than 24 tor 2st by NJ making conf finals

It always depends on who an organization likes better. I disagreed with Conroy on Grushnikov and a 2nd being a better return than a late 1st. I still do. The guy pulling the trigger gets to decide though.

I also think it's a realistic scenario that Murray Edwards is petty enough to not get the best return just to satisfy his bruised ego. That guy is a real piece of work. The rot in our organization starts in his Swiss mansion where he saves taxes while asking for tax payers to support his business.

Markstrom hasn't looked the same since Edmonton demolished him in the playoffs.

Blessing in disguise.
