Replacement lace-up jersey laces?

So here's another long-shot, but I'll ask anyway. Does anyone know where to get new laces for lace-up hockey jerseys? I haven't been able to find any online, and I'd rather not do something half-assed like buying children's shoe laces or whatever. Plus I'd like to be able to color match, rather than just buy a random color and hope it's close. Anyway, any ideas?

basically buying shoe laces is your only option because laces in hockey jerseys ARE shoe laces.
I had to buy several after my beer league team split up. the jerseys belonged to me and were still perfectly fine to use as tournament jerseys. I was able to replace all the missing laces by measuring one and ordering from this website: http://www.shoelacesexpress.com

laces look identical to what the jerseys came with.

Fair enough, thanks. I suppose the problem will really be what I said before: hoping each color actually matches without having it right in front of me.

also, I checked the laces that we got. the length is 27". color was easy for us since the original laces were white.

jesus just get some shoelaces and throw them in there. You're playing hockey, not walking down a runway in Milan.

Thank you for the helpful response ;)

For pickup hockey yeah, who gives a ****. But my winter league is really strict and finnicky about uniform matters, so if the lead ref is having a bad day they can technically bust you for stupid things (last week one team had to play short one guy because he brought the wrong color hockey socks to the game), and ice time being the premium it is, nobody has the time to argue.

Anyway, point is, because of all that, people take a lot of pride in my league over keeping up a sharp appearance. So, to each his own.

wow, that is a super strict league! sounds like they need to relax. is this adult beer league?
my team, black and red (old Senators 3rds) once had to play a team that was black and orange (Ducks) because the other team forgot to bring their alternate jerseys. :amazed:

Yeah it is. I like it though, because it provides at least a veneer of structure. I hear stories about other leagues (both on HFBoards and elsewhere) that really make me like my league all the more. Also, given my real-life background as a people-wrangler/cat-herder, I really believe in having specific structure and rules to make sure everything runs smoothly.

I mean, something seemingly silly like not letting a guy play because he has the wrong socks ultimately stems from making sure you don't have teams sneaking in their cousin who used to play Junior-A onto their D2 team when no one's looking. It also helps differentiate from other leagues that are a lot more pickup-style--not that there's anything wrong with that (I play pickup, too), but it helps everything feel more "official". You like what you like :)

We have one league like that in Chicago where they make everyone wear the same stuff and even have names on the back of the jerseys. Its that stupid HNA league. Needless to say it attracts the worst players I've ever seen. They have something like 6 divisions and the top division is barely a step above novice.

My theory is that good players don't play in leagues like that cause good players usually play on more than one team and aren't going to waste their money buying all new gear just so they can match for one of the many teams they are on. At least that's the reason I quit after one season.

Yeah I've heard Chicago is a pain when it comes to league play. Mine doesn't seem to have that problem though. There are a ton of different divisions, and the powers that be are really committed to making sure everyone's playing at the proper level. As for playing on different teams, anyone is allowed to play in higher divisions than they've been slotted in, but you can't play lower. So if, say, a B-level team will have you for some reason, a D-level player could theoretically skate with them, provided they have the jersey and everything (we too have the name-on-the-back rule, which, again, I support). Matching gear isn't really a problem, because most people/teams have the common sense to just go with black, anyway.

Good question. I know it's its own "association", and seems pretty independent from the rinks. I'm lucky enough to live in an area with a lot of them, so they basically rent the time from a bunch of rinks within a 30 mile radius (or whatever), and that's basically what your league fees cover. I'm pretty sure the "officers" for the league play in it themselves, but I'm not sure that's the same as "being run by the players", if you know what I mean.

In any event, the end result is something that feels really structured and official, which is exactly what I was looking for when I got back into things. I read other posts on this forum about whole teams not showing up, or people starting fights in the hallways and it just blows my mind.

judging from your response it sounds like yes, your league is run by the players.
my league is run by an elected board of players as well. there are only 3 leagues in our town and 2 are run by rinks. the rink run leagues are constantly receiving complaints from players. they do things like let people play down several levels, schedule playoff games with less than 24 hours notice, show favoritism to certain players etc.
I much prefer my independent league which sounds a lot like yours though not so strict on uniform requirements

Ah okay. Well I guess it makes sense, considering the rinks are businesses that need to make money first, care about people's overall experience second. I'm sure the rink leagues would only change things if they thought it would increase their profit margins.

I know it might seem a little cheap, but I had a jersey that was a tie up and I lost the lace for it. I ended up cutting an old skate lace to fit as the tie up lace. I thought it looked pretty cool. But that really depends on what you're into.

So if you have a decent amount of skate laces laying around that could be a cheap semi decent option for you. Unless league rules dictate otherwise...
