Peterborough Petes 2024-25 Season Thread, Part II

Less then 10 mins in and down 3-0 ... I, as most of us thought .. this game was a train wreck

This was a great battle back .. against what I consider, a good (not great) balanced team

The fight the Petes displayed tonight ... UNREAL
Faulkner .. one of the best games he has played in a Petes Uniform ... Marty .. solid performance ... The team on a whole just played as a team (rather then individualists)

Let's hope it rolls into Oshawa tomorrow night

Good come from behind win. Some nice performances by the vets - Melee, Faulkner, McCallum, Matejicek leading the way and the young D did enough to hang in there.

Good effort, nice to get the win but the Petes tried to give it away late in the third with two penalties. Saginaw is very good offensively.

Yeah that was an amazing game to watch the Petes battle back. They played like they were playing before the Soo game a week ago. Before the Soo game is when I watched the Petes Pre-game show on YOUR TV when Dan Malta's guest (who does the Petes radio play by play and I can't recall his name) said that the Petes' offense is 2nd to none in the OHL right now - only the Petes go ahead and only score one goal in the next two games!

Scoring 8 last night makes that claim a little more realistic lol.

Saginaw's goaltending was not good and Bowen didn't have one of his best nights. He deserves a pass after being out for some time with an injury.

Saginaw is a team that can outscore their goaltending issues. To quote Geoffrey Brandow, it was a "defence optional affair." It certainly wasn't a goaltending duel.

As for Bowen just being back, a few people around me and I thought he may have come back a bit too soon. A few times, he reacted to a shot or pass with a bit more of a delay than normal. Knowing who they're playing tonight, though, I'm glad. A back-to-back against two high expected scoring teams would have been pretty rough on Rye/Johnston, however those starts shook out.

Apparently Bowen is starting again tonight... so... yeah...
Looks like the exact same lineup as well, so still no Cameron/Strohack.

The Petes don't quit I agree - this is a heart and soul team that has no business playing games in which a stacked team like Oshawa and even Saginaw have to play their top guys more often and against a depleted Petes defense. too. Oshawa has at least three guys who look old enough to be their Math teacher. The Petes scrapping with the Gens is proof that they don't quit and have pride. what about Marantette kinda losing his sh** - wonder if the league will review that, trying to fight with two linespersons trying to hold him and Martin back,

There's a difference between skating hard and continuously trying to be competitive over constantly taking liberties at Oshawa every chance you get. Like Bowen throwing a sissy fit and taking 4 shots at Powell while he stood there and laughed.

Oshawa knew in the last 10 minutes thay Peterborough was head hunting which side why you never saw Barlow, Sennecke, Ritchie or even Wang on the ice after it was 6-3.

Saying they "don't quit" have trying to start something after every whistle is heart and soul, it's frustration and lack of discipline.

Having said that, I do agree this Peterborough team will likely be top of the East in 2 years when they out some pieces together.

Can anyone explain why Taylor gets the ice time he does? He's the laziest player on the team, puts no effort in defensively, avoids contact (other than weak cheap shots to players who aren't looking) and stays on the ice way too long. He doesn't even produce offence. I know he's among the top 5 in team scoring, but how could he not be with the ice time he gets? It's just baffling that Wilson plays him. But everything Wilson does is baffling.

All I can say is that Taylor is one of the few genuine snipers on the team, an offensively gifted player on a "defense-first" team. He has stepped up his physical game of late because that's what this team is about and he's trying to round out his game. Unfortunately in a game like last night where they get an early lead, the Petes are coached to keep playing the usual defensive trap game whereas why don't they keep trying to score? The penalties don't help that's for sure and we can't do much on the PP .

We are without Cameron and Strohack due to injury who are two of our top four defensemen not to mention Jenken out for season, he was a solid member of the blueline before going out with an injury.

As for Taylor, Addy and Young, they have been good at times but somehow I expect more. But first round forward picks on a tight-checking defensive minded team is a tough transition for these kids. In the end they will be more well rounded players. I'm hoping that next year we see more wins. Way more wins.
