You might not like how it sounds...but I don't care. As a Habs fan, I was so easy to dislike the Bruins. But impossible to not realize that Patrice Bergeron will always be seen as one of the best 2-way player to have ever played the game.

It,s time to move on from the trophy names that lost their meaning and give those trophies something more from this era. Yeah, I would also change every other trophy not named the Stanley Cup. But with what happened yesterday with the Bruins, I thought it was appropriate to talk about this trophy and the guy that most likely has played his final game.

If not, well wait till he retires....but acknowledge the greatness of that player.

why not the Brind A'mour, or the Clarke, or the Datsyuk, or any other multiple-time award winner with a big legacy?

I know, Bergeron won a ton. Just trying to figure out what the standard or the recency would be for renaming awards.

Problem is once you start re-naming trophies, it kind of opens the door. Why not the Gainey, or the Carbonneau or the Datsyuk? Why not whatever guy comes next after Bergeron and starts cleaning up this award annually?

You read my post from earlier today, did you? :D

was sad to see Bergeron leave in tears after the game and agree that hes one of the best 2 way center of all time but no keep the same names

If it’s ever renamed it will be for Bob Gainey
I'm a Habs fan. I've seen Gainey play. And the idea here is to make those trophy names relevant and as TODAY as it's possible. It's not by naming a trophy to a guy who stopped playing in 89. Also, the Selke right now is based on a guy who is a true 2-way player. A 2-way player in the sense that provides offense just as much as he provides defense. Gainey was not that. If we want to have a trophy for the best pure defensive forward, go ahead. Unless you do it for the Selke, and ADD a 2-way trophy and have the Bergeron added to it.....

It should have been named the Gainey after he retired. The award was literally created so people would understand his impact on the game and how he won a Conn Smythe as a defensive forward. No one else has impacted two way play at his level. Nearly every award would be named after Habs players if they were doing this though. The byng should have been the Beliveau.

Uh yeah, nah.

Art Ross = Gretzky
Rocket = Ovechkin
Hart = Gretzky or Howe
Pearson = Gretzky or Lemieux

I'm counting like zero Canadiens here among the major awards.
